''The Naked Jungle'' is a 1954 American adventure film directed by Byron Haskin, and starring Charlton Heston and Eleanor Parker. Telling the story of an attack of army ants on a Brazilian cocoa plantation, it was based on the 1937 short story "Leiningen Versus the Ants" by Carl Stephenson (author), Carl Stephenson. Plot In 1901, Joanna arrives from New Orleans at a South American Theobroma cacao, cocoa plantation to meet her new husband (whom she married by proxy), plantation owner Christopher Leiningen. This has been arranged by his brother in New Orleans. Leiningen is upset that she is a widow, as he wished to marry a virgin. She tells him a piano plays better if it has already been played. Leiningen is cold and remote to her, rebuffing all her attempts to make friends with him. She is beautiful, independent, and arrives ready to be his stalwart helpmate. ''Naked Jungle'' is a one-off television game show produced for the United Kingdom terrestrial TV station Channel 5 by Granada Television, airing on 6 June 2000. A gameshow with an assault course format, based on and using the same set as the children's show ''Jungle Run'', it was controversial because its contestants were nudists. The programme's presenter, Keith Chegwin, was also naked, except for a hat. It was part of a special season of programmes on the channel to mark the 50th anniversary of British naturism. A video of ''Naked Jungle'' was released by Playback in late 2000. It was rated "15" by the British Board of Film Classification. Format The programme was made by the same producers as CITV's children's gameshow ''Jungle Run'', and used the same set as well as following the same format, apart from having individual winners instead of a winning team.
