''The Mystery of the Yellow Room'' (French: ''Le mystère de la chambre jaune'') is a 1930 French mystery film directed by Marcel L'Herbier and starring Roland Toutain, Huguette Duflos, and Léon Belières.The A to Z of French Cinema p.257 It is based on the 1907 The Mystery of the Yellow Room, novel of the same title by Gaston Leroux. L'Herbier made a sequel, ''The Perfume of the Lady in Black (1931 film), The Perfume of the Lady in Black'', the following year. The film's sets were designed by the art director Lazare Meerson. Marcel L'Herbier
Marcel L'Herbier (; 23 April 1888 – 26 November 1979) was a French filmmaker who achieved prominence as an avant-garde theorist and imaginative practitioner with a series of silent films in the 1920s. His career as a director continued until the 1950s and he made more than 40 feature films in total. During the 1950s and 1960s, he worked on cultural programmes for French television. He also fulfilled many administrative roles in the French film industry, and he was the founder and the first President of the French film school Institut des hautes études cinématographiques (IDHEC). Early life Marcel L'Herbier was born in Paris on 23 April 1888 into a professional and intellectual family, and as he grew up he demonstrated a multi-talented disposition for sports, dancing, debating and the arts. Joseph Rouletabille () is a fictional character created by Gaston Leroux, a French writer and journalist. Rouletabille is a journalist and amateur sleuth featured in several novels and other works, often presented as a more capable thinker than the police. Georges Tréville
Georges Tréville (28 July 1875 – 30 May 1944) was a French actor and film director. Born as Georges Troly, during the silent era, he played the gentlemen thief Arsène Lupin in several short films. He also went to Britain to direct and star in the Éclair film series of Sherlock Holmes stories for the Éclair film company. Tréville later directed two British films for the Ideal Film Company. Ksenia Alexandrovna Kuprina (russian: Ксе́ния Алекса́ндровна Куприна́, 21 April 1908 – 8 December 1981) was a French model and actress of Russian and Hungarian origins. A daughter of the Russian writer Alexander Kuprin, she was known in France by her stage name Kissa Kouprine. Biography Ksenia Kuprina was born in 1908, to Alexander Kuprin and his second wife Elizaveta Geinrich (1882–1942), a daughter of the Hungarian revolutionary Morits Rotoni-Geinrich.
