The Mugwumps (band)
The Mugwumps were a 1960s folk rock band, based in New York City. It released one self-titled album in 1967 and two singles. The Mugwumps found little success during their short time together in 1964, and are best known for launching the careers of Cass Elliot and Denny Doherty (who went on to co-found the Mamas & the Papas) and John Sebastian and Zal Yanovsky (who co-founded the Lovin' Spoonful). History The origin of the band's name is unclear. One source says that it was taken from the William S. Burroughs novel ''The Naked Lunch''. The liner notes for the 2007 re-release of ''The Mugwumps'' reports that Jim Hendricks claimed that the name came from music producer Erik Jacobsen. ''Daydream'' is the second album by the Lovin' Spoonful, released in 1966. It features two hits, "Daydream", which reached No. 2 in the U.S. Billboard Top 40 charts, and "You Didn't Have to Be So Nice" (U.S. No. 10). Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles (also known as Bubbling Under the Hot 100) is a chart published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine in the United States. The chart lists the top songs that have not yet charted on the main ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Chart rankings are based on radio airplay, sales, and streams. In its initial years, the chart listed 15 positions, but expanded to as many as 36 during the 1960s, particularly during years when over 700 singles made the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart. Sidewalk Records was a record label based in Hollywood, California that was started in 1963 by Mike Curb at the age of eighteen. The company was first formed as Sidewalk Productions and later became a subsidiary label of Capitol Records. Many recordings by Sidewalk Productions appeared on the related label Tower Records, also a subsidiary of Capitol Records. (This label is not affiliated with the record store chain of the same name, which started out in Sacramento, California) Most of the LPs released on ''Sidewalk Records'' were soundtrack albums, mainly those of films released by American International Pictures. Mike Curb
Michael Curb (born December 24, 1944) is an American musician, record company executive, motorsports car owner, philanthropist, and former politician. He is also the founder of Curb Records where he presently serves as the chairman. Curb also serves as Chairman of Word Entertainment. He is an inductee of the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame. A Republican, Curb served as the 42nd lieutenant governor of California from 1979 to 1983. Dunhill Records was started in 1964 by Lou Adler, Jay Lasker, Pierre Cossette and Bobby Roberts as Dunhill Productions to release the music of Johnny Rivers on Imperial Records. It became a record label the following year and was distributed by ABC Records. The first Dunhill single was "My Prayer/Pretty Please" (catalog #D-4001) by Shelley Fabares, who was married to Adler at the time. In the summer of 1967 Adler sold his shares to ABC Records, creating ABC-Dunhill Records, after which he started yet another label Ode Records (which was first distributed by CBS and later by A&M Records). The Lamp of Childhood was a short-lived American folk rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1966. The band released three singles which failed to chart and disbanded in 1967, but had several notable members. History The band was founded by Jim Hendricks, former member of The Mugwumps and husband of Cass Elliot. Elliot and Hendricks previously performed together in the New York-based folk trio The Big 3 in 1963–4.
