''The Monk and the Demon'' (russian: Монах и бес, Monakh i bes) is a 2016 Russian comedy film directed by Nikolay Dostal. It is inspired by the life of Ilya (Archbishop of Novgorod). Plot Fantastic story of the first half of the 19th century. In the monastery there is a new resident Ivan. But along with the monk, dark forces penetrate the monastery, which materialize in the person of the Legion (as he introduced himself to Ivan). The Legion chose Ivan as the object of his diabolical work, tempting him in every possible way in order to knock off his chosen way of serving God. But the stronger the temptation, the stronger the spiritual strength of Ivan. Roman Sergeevich Madyanov (russian: Рома́н Серге́евич Мадя́нов; born July 22, 1962) is a Soviet and Russian actor. Madyanov's career in cinema began as a child actor when he starred as Huckleberry Finn in '' Hopelessly Lost'' (1973). He is best known in the West for portraying the corrupt mayor Vadim in the 2014 film '' Leviathan''. Biography Roman Madyanov was born on July 22, 1962 in the city of Dedovsk, Moscow Region. The Nika Award (sometimes styled NIKA Award) is the main annual national film award in Russia, presented by the Russian Academy of Cinema Arts and Science, and seen as the national equivalent of the Oscars. History The award was established in 1987 in Moscow by Yuli Gusman, and ostensibly modelled on the Oscars. The Russian award takes its name from Nike, the goddess of victory. Accordingly, the prize is modelled after the sculpture of the Winged Victory of Samothrace. Yuri Arabov Yuri Nikolaevich Arabov (russian: Юрий Николаевич Арабов) (born 25 October 1954) is a Russian screenwriter, writer, poet and educator. He is known for his long-lasting collaboration with Alexander Sokurov. He is an Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1999). Biography Yuri Arabov was born in Moscow into a mixed Russian-Greek family. His parents met in Tula, Russia, the native town of his father, but divorced in five years after Yuri's birth.
