''The Miller of Burgundy'' (sometimes spelled ''Burgandy'') is a 1912 American silent film drama produced by Oscar Eagle. The film stars Frank Weed and Adrienne Kroell. Plot In the picturesque little province of Burgundy in Eastern France, there lived an old miller named Meunier. With him, the joy of his heart and administrator to his simple needs, lived his daughter Louise, she of the dancing eyes and roughish beauty. Meunier enjoyed the respect of the simple easy going peasantry thereabouts and, from profits of his grist mill, he was enabled to live in a comparative comfort and contentment. This happy condition was interrupted when one Monsieur Bontemps, a rich Parisian financier and mill speculator, decided that he need Meunier's mill. To his offers, the miller however, turned a deaf ear and when Bontemp's son was sent to either purchase Meunier's mill, or start one in opposition, the old miller's future looked dark and foreboding. Adrienne Kroell
Adrienne Kroell (December 13, 1892- October 2, 1949), was an American actress. She appeared in over 75 to 90 films between 1909 and 1914. She was born in Chicago, Illinois. She later moved to St. Louis, Missouri, and attended Yeatman High School. Kroell began acting on stage in St. Louis in 1906 after she won a beauty contest there. She first appeared in film in 1909 and appeared in films mostly made by the Selig Polyscope Company until 1914. '' The Cowboy Millionaire'' was her first film appearance which also starred Tom Mix. She retired from acting in 1917 after she developed arthritis. On October 2, 1949, Kroell died at Sturgis Convelescent Home in Evanston, Illinois, of complications from arthritis and was buried at Rosehill Cemetery in Chicago. Selig Polyscope Company
The Selig Polyscope Company was an American motion picture company that was founded in 1896 by William Selig in Chicago. The company produced hundreds of early, widely distributed commercial moving pictures, including the first films starring Tom Mix, Harold Lloyd, Colleen Moore, and Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle. Selig Polyscope also established Southern California's first permanent movie studio, in the historic Edendale district of Los Angeles. Ending film production in 1918, the business, based on its film production animals, became an animal and prop supplier to other studios and a zoo and amusement park attraction in East Los Angeles until the Great Depression in the 1930s. A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience. Thomas Commerford (August 1, 1855 in New York City - February 17, 1920 in Chicago) was an American actor on stage and in silent films. He was also known as Tom I. Comberford and T. I. Comberford. Commerford debuted in the Old Drury Theater, then worked with the troupes of Edwin Arden and Dore Davidson. He appeared in Lincoln J. Carter productions for more than 25 years.
