''The Middle Watch'' is a 1930 British comedy film directed by Norman Walker and starring Owen Nares, Jacqueline Logan, Jack Raine and Dodo Watts. It was based on a play of the same title by Ian Hay. (The play is mentioned by David Niven in his memoir , along withe Ann Todd who had a minor role in it )The film's sets were designed by John Mead. The film was made by British International Pictures at its Elstree Studios. It was later remade in 1940 by the same company. ''The Middle Watch'' is a 1940 British comedy film, directed by Thomas Bentley and starring Jack Buchanan, Greta Gynt, Fred Emney and Kay Walsh. It was film producer, produced by Associated British Picture Corporation at their Welwyn Studios. It was based on a play of the same title by Ian Hay and Stephen King-Hall which had previously been The Middle Watch (1930 film), adapted as a film in 1930, and which was Girls at Sea (1958 film), adapted again in 1958. Synopsis This comedy film features battleship Captain Maitland (Jack Buchanan) celebrating a bon voyage (other), bon voyage party. He later discovers two stowaways, attractive young women, but much too late to turn back. Despite the captain's efforts to hide them, they are soon discovered, with predictable consequences. Syd Crossley (18 November 1885 – 1 November 1960) was an English stage and film actor. Born in London in 1885, Crossley began his career as a music hall comedian. He appeared in more than 110 films, often cast as a butler, between 1925 and 1942, with some of his most memorable early performances in Hal Roach shorts opposite Stan Laurel, Charley Chase, and Mabel Normand. Margaret Halstan
Margaret Halstan (25 December 1879 – 8 January 1967) was a British stage, radio, television and film actress. In theatre and film roles she often played upper-class ladies of the gentry, with a career spanning over six decades. She was particularly known for her Shakespearian roles, having debuted in 1895, at the turn of the century she joined Sir Frank Benson theatre company, and also played in the theatrical company's of Sir George Alexander and Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree, before making her debut in silent film in 1916. Biography She was born Clara Maud Hertz in Greater London in 1879, of apparently Jewish descentand later used the stage name Margaret Halstan.
