The Menagerie (Star Trek)
The Menagerie is a two-part episode from the Star Trek: The Original Series (season 1), first season of the American science fiction television series ''Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek''. It comprises the eleventh and twelfth broadcast episodes of the series. Written by series creator Gene Roddenberry and directed by Marc Daniels (part one) and Robert Butler (director), Robert Butler (part two), it is the only two-part story in the original series. Part I was broadcast by NBC on November 17, 1966, and Part II was broadcast on November 24, 1966. In the episode, Spock abducts his former commander Christopher Pike (Star Trek), Christopher Pike, locks the starship USS Enterprise (NCC-1701), ''Enterprise'' on a course to the forbidden planet The Cage (Star Trek: The Original Series), Talos IV and turns himself in for court-martial where he presents an elaborate story explaining his actions. The Original Series
''Star Trek'' is an American science fiction on television, science fiction television series created by Gene Roddenberry that follows the adventures of the starship and its crew. It later acquired the retronym of ''Star Trek: The Original Series'' (''TOS'') to distinguish the show within the Star Trek, media franchise that it began. The show is set in the Milky Way, Milky Way galaxy, circa 2266–2269. The ship and crew are led by Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner), First Officer and Science Officer Spock (Leonard Nimoy), and Chief Medical Officer Leonard McCoy, Leonard H. "Bones" McCoy (DeForest Kelley). Shatner's voice-over introduction during each episode's opening credits stated the starship's purpose: Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of USS Enterprise (NCC-1701), the starship ''Enterprise''.
