The Marriage Of Figaro (1949 Film)
''The Marriage of Figaro'' (german: Figaros Hochzeit) is a 1949 East German musical film directed by Georg Wildhagen and starring Angelika Hauff, Willi Domgraf-Fassbaender and Sabine Peters. It was based on the opera ''The Marriage of Figaro'' by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Lorenzo Da Ponte, which was itself based on the play ''The Marriage of Figaro'' by Pierre Beaumarchais. The film was made by DEFA, the state production company of East Germany, in their Babelsberg Studio and the nearby Babelsberg Park. It sold 5,479,427 tickets. The production used not the original Italian but a German text. The recitatives were replaced with dialogue spoken by the actors. Except for Willi Domgraf-Fassbaender as Figaro and Mathieu Ahlersmeyer as Count Almaviva, the singing parts were supplied by opera singers. ''Lex ... Babelsberg Park
Babelsberg Park (german: Park Babelsberg) is a 114 hectare park in the northeast of the city of Potsdam, bordering on the ''Tiefen See'' lake on the River Havel. The park was first designed by the landscape artist Peter Joseph Lenné and, after him, by Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau and Karl Friedrich Schinkel, by order of the then-prince William I and his wife, Augusta. Willi Puhlmann
Richard Georg Willi Puhlmann (25 June 1934 – 17 July 1996), was a German fashion photographer, who worked with the top models, stylists and designers in the fashion industry. He was killed when TWA Flight 800 came down shortly after takeoff in 1996. Early life Puhlmann was born in Berlin in 1934. At the age of seven, he worked as a child actor during the years of World War II and made his acting debut in the 1942 film ''Front Theatre''. In the fall of 1943, going under the name Willi Puhlmann, he was cast in the main role for the film adaption of the German fairy tale '' Little Muck'', which was set in 18th century Holy Roman Empire. Margarete Klose
Margarete Klose (6 August 1899 or 1902 – 14 December 1968) was a German operatic mezzo-soprano. Life Klose was born (as Frida Klose) and died in Berlin. She lost her father early in life and had to earn her living as a secretary, until a colleague recommended her to the Klindworth-Scharwenka conservatory, where she got a thorough musical education. Klose made her début in 1926 at the Theater Ulm in a supporting role of Emmerich Kálmán's operetta ''Countess Maritza''. Her next role was Azucena in Giuseppe Verdi's ''Il trovatore''. For the next three years Klose sang in Ulm and Kassel, before joining the Mannheim National Theatre in 1929. Erna Berger (19 October 1900 – 14 June 1990) was a German lyric coloratura soprano. She was best known for her Queen of the Night and her Konstanze. Career Born in Dresden, Germany, Berger spent some years as a child in India and South America. Veit Harlan (22 September 1899 – 13 April 1964) was a German film director and actor. Harlan reached the highpoint of his career as a director in the Nazi era; most notably his antisemitic film ''Jud Süß'' (1940) makes him controversial.
