The Marriage Cheat
''The Marriage Cheat'' is a 1924 American silent drama film directed by John Griffith Wray and written by C. Gardner Sullivan. The film stars Leatrice Joy, Adolphe Menjou, Percy Marmont, Laska Winter, Henry A. Barrows, and J. P. Lockney. The film was released on April 5, 1924, by First National Pictures. Plot As described in a film magazine review, Octavia leads an unhappy life with her dissipated husband, Bob Canfield, who is a millionaire. While cruising in the South Seas, she leaps overboard. Paul Mayne, a young missionary, finds her on an island beach. Her baby is born before her husband discovers her. In the interval she has learned to love Mayne, but yields to her marital duty's call and prepares to rejoin Canfield. In a storm the yacht is wrecked and the wretched husband drowns. Paul fights his way through the surging waves in a frail canoe and rescues the young mother and her baby. With the death of Canfield, Paul and Octavia face a happy future together. Cast ... John Griffith Wray
John Griffith Wray (August 30, 1881 – July 15, 1929) was an American stage actor and director who later became a noted Hollywood silent film director. He worked on 19 films between 1913 in film, 1913 and 1929 in film, 1929 that included ''Anna Christie (1923 film), Anna Christie'' (1923) and ''Human Wreckage'' (1923), Dorothy Davenport's story about her husband Wallace Reid's drug addiction and death. Biography Wray was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and died in Los Angeles, California. By 1912 Wray was a leading actor and stage director with the World's Fair Stock Company's yearlong Hawaiian tour. He married actress Virginia Brissac in Santa Ana, California, on June 29, 1915, and became the step-father of screenwriter Ardel Wray. The couple divorced in 1927. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." __NOTOC__ The Bank of Italy was founded in San Francisco, California, United States, on October 17, 1904, by Amadeo Pietro Giannini. It grew by a branch banking strategy to become Bank of America, the world's largest commercial bank, with 493 branches in California and assets of $5 billion in 1945. History The bank was established to serve working class citizens of the area, especially Italian Americans living in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood. The bank survived the San Francisco earthquake and fire of 1906, after Amadeo Pietro Giannini saw an approaching fire and filled the bank assets in the back of his horse drawn cart which he rode to his San Mateo home.
