The Mark Of The Rani
''The Mark of The Rani'' is the third serial of the 22nd season of the British science fiction television series '' Doctor Who'', which was first broadcast in two weekly parts on BBC1 on 2 and 9 February 1985. The serial is set in the mining village of Killingworth in North East England in the 19th century. In the serial, the renegade Time Lords the Rani (Kate O'Mara) and the Master (Anthony Ainley) team up to take a chemical from humans' brains for use in the Rani's experiments, with the Master also intending to use the brightest minds of the Industrial Revolution to make the Earth a base for himself. Plot When the Sixth Doctor and Peri arrive in the 19th Century mining town of Killingworth, they encounter a group of rampaging miners attacking people and destroying machinery. Peter Childs
Peter Childs (31 August 1939 – 1 November 1989) was an English character actor best known for playing Cockney Detective Sergeant Ronnie Rycott, nemesis of Arthur Daley in the top-rated ITV series, '' Minder''. Biography Childs was born at Eastbourne, East Sussex, on 31 August 1939, and was educated at the local grammar school before training to be an actor. He trained at the Birmingham Theatre School, toiling 10 years doing repertory work before breaking into television, playing a small role in the Anton Rodgers crime series ''Zodiac''. Later Childs gained valuable experience working with the Manchester 59 company, appearing in ''Erb'', a show that transferred to London's West End. Killingworth
Killingworth, formerly Killingworth Township, is a town in North Tyneside, England. Killingworth was built as a planned town in the 1960s, next to Killingworth Village, which existed for centuries before the Township. Other nearby towns and villages include Forest Hall, West Moor and Backworth. Many of Killingworth's residents commute to Newcastle or to its surrounding area. Killingworth has also developed a sizeable commercial centre, with bus links to the rest of Tyne and Wear. The twenty-second season of British science fiction television series ''Doctor Who'' began on 5 January 1985 and ended on 30 March 1985. It opened with the serial ''Attack of the Cybermen'' and ended with the serial ''Revelation of the Daleks''. The season returned to the traditional Saturday transmission for the first time since Season 18, but for the first and only time in the classic series' first run it featured 45-minute episodes in its entirety. During transmission, BBC One controller Michael Grade announced an 18-month hiatus for the series, partly citing the violence depicted in the stories of the season.
