Seatrain (band)
Seatrain was an American roots fusion band based initially in Marin County, California, and later in Marblehead, Massachusetts. Seatrain was formed in 1969, subsequently drawing some members from the Blues Project when it broke up. Seatrain recorded four albums and disbanded in 1973. Band history Flutist/bassist Andy Kulberg and drummer Roy Blumenfeld of Blues Project formed the band with Jim Roberts, ex-Mystery Trend guitarist John Gregory, former Blue Grass Boy and Jim Kweskin Jug Band violinist/fiddler Richard Greene, and saxophonist Don Kretmar. Seatrain recorded their first album, ''Planned Obsolescence'', in 1968, but had to release it as a Blues Project album for contractual reasons. Andy Kulberg
Andy Kulberg (April 30, 1944 – January 28, 2002) was an American musician notable for his bass playing with the groups Blues Project and Seatrain. He was born in Buffalo, New York, and grew up in Amherst, New York. In 1965, he became a founding member of the "Blues Project", a popular New York City folk rock band, along with Al Kooper, Danny Kalb, Steve Katz and Roy Blumenfeld. Kulberg was the band's bass guitarist, also known for his electric flute virtuosity. He later was a member of "Seatrain" which he formed with Blumenfeld after the breakup of Blues Project in early 1969. Peter Rowan and Richard Greene were among the members of Seatrain. For twenty-five years, Kulberg worked in Fairfax, California as a musician and composer, collaborating with Chris Michie, while at the same time owning and operating, along with Michie, the music production company Kulberg/Michie Music. Richard Greene (musician)
Richard Greene (born November 9, 1942) is an American violinist who has been described as "one of the most innovative and influential fiddle players of all time". Greene is credited with introducing the chop to fiddle playing while working with Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys, the invention of which he attributes to pain in his wrist and arm and "laziness". He featured the technique in his performances with Seatrain. Biography Greene was born in Beverly Hills and grew up in Los Angeles. He began studying classical music at age 5 but turned to folk music by high school. After entering the University of California, Berkeley, he joined the Coast Mountain Ramblers and later the Dry City Scat Band, led by guitarist David Lindley. Greene first attained prominence with Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys in 1966 as one of Monroe's first "northern" band members. Peter Rowan
Peter Rowan (born July 4, 1942) is an American bluegrass musician and composer. Rowan plays guitar and mandolin, yodels and sings. Biography Rowan was born in Wayland, Massachusetts to a musical family. From an early age, he had an interest in music and learned to play the guitar from his uncle. He formed the rockabilly band the Cupids 1956.Goldsmith 2004, p. 263.Von Schmidt, Rooney 1994, p. 64. Influenced by the blues musician Eric Von Schmidt, Rowan traded his electric guitar for an acoustic and began to play the blues. He was also influenced by the folk sound of Joan Baez. In college, he discovered bluegrass after hearing The Country Gentlemen and The Stanley Brothers. He soon discovered the music of Bill Monroe, and with some help from banjo player Bill Keith, he was invited to Nashville to audition for Monroe. ''Watch'' is the fourth and final album of the band Seatrain, recorded in 1973. It is marked with the departure of Peter Rowan and Richard Greene (they formed the band Muleskinner) and the use of more session musicians on instruments like vibraphone, cello, accordion, tuba and oboe. Original members Andy Kulberg and Jim Roberts still remained with the group, though Roberts only contributed to three of the album's nine tracks. George Martin
Sir George Henry Martin (3 January 1926 – 8 March 2016) was an English record producer, arranger, composer, conductor, and musician.
