The Mancunion
''The Mancunion'' is the University of Manchester Students' Union's student newspaper. It is the largest student newspaper in the United Kingdom and is distributed throughout Greater Manchester. The name is a portmanteau of ''Mancunian'', the demonym for residents of Manchester, and ''union'', given its role as the newspaper of the Students' Union. The Guardian
''The Guardian'' is a British daily newspaper. It was founded in 1821 as ''The Manchester Guardian'', and changed its name in 1959. Along with its sister papers ''The Observer'' and ''The Guardian Weekly'', ''The Guardian'' is part of the Guardian Media Group, owned by the Scott Trust. The trust was created in 1936 to "secure the financial and editorial independence of ''The Guardian'' in perpetuity and to safeguard the journalistic freedom and liberal values of ''The Guardian'' free from commercial or political interference". James Franklin Archibald "Archie" Bland (born 7 October 1983), is a British newspaper journalist who writes the Guardian's daily morning newsletter First Edition. The ''Guardian'' Student Media Awards were an annual UK-wide student journalism competition run by ''The Guardian'' newspaper. They were cancelled from 2016 onwards to save costs. History Since 1947, The National Union of Students (NUS) have run a student journalism competition of some kind. In 1978, ''The Guardian'' joined forces with the NUS for the inaugural NUS/''Guardian'' Student Media Awards. In the early years the competition was modest. Only a handful of categories - for Best Paper, Best Magazine, Best Photographer and Best Journalist existed - along with awards for student radio. The Student Publication Association (SPA) is a national body for student newspapers and magazines in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. The SPA aims to provide support and training for student journalists, encourage best practice, and recognise success. It is a non-profit body run by a team of volunteers, with five elected committee members, eight appointed regional officers, and up to seven trustees. Currently it has more than 150 member publications across the two countries. The association was formed in 2012 and holds an annual national conference and awards ceremony for student journalists, as well as other various initiatives throughout the year. Fuse FM
Fuse FM is a student radio station covering the campuses of the University of Manchester, England, UK, broadcasting throughout the university term online via the station's website from the University of Manchester Students' Union. Like most student radio stations, it is run entirely by volunteers, mainly from the students studying at the university. The station is a member of The Student Radio Association. History The Student Union Executive accepted a proposal to create the station in July 2000 and work began on creating a base for the station, which was originally called Mint FM. The name was changed to Fuse FM in October 2000. Space in the Union basement was converted into a fully functioning broadcast studio and production suite. Manchester () is a city in Greater Manchester, England. It had a population of 552,000 in 2021.
