''The Man in the Fire'' (German: ''Der Mann im Feuer'') is a 1926 German silent film directed by Erich Waschneck and starring Helga Thomas, Olga Tschechowa and Henry Stuart (actor), Henry Stuart.Bock & Bergfelder p.485 It was shot at the Weissensee Studios in Berlin. The film's sets were designed by Botho Hoefer. It was released in the United States under the alternative title of ''When Duty Calls''. Erich Waschneck
Erich John Waschneck (29 April 1887, in Grimma, Kingdom of Saxony – 22 September 1970, in Berlin) was a German cameraman, director, screenwriter, and film producer. Early life Erich was the son of Karl Hermann Waschneck, a blacksmith, and his wife Therese Emilie, née Schneider. Waschneck went to finishing school at the Leipzig Art Academy and studied painting. Career He came in contact with the film industry in 1907 when he began to paint posters for films. He then worked as a still photographer and later as a camera assistant to cinematographer Fritz Arno Wagner . In 1921, he did his first work as a cameraman in the adaptation of the fairy tale ''The Little Muck'' by Wilhelm Hauff. From 1924 he worked as a director. His film ''Eight Girls in a boat'' (1932) won the Gold Medal at the Venice Film Festival. In 1932 he became managing director of Beacon-Film GmbH in Berlin and film producer. Kurt Vespermann
Kurt Vespermann (1 May 1887 – 13 July 1957) was a German stage and film actor. Career Vespermann was born into an actor's family in Culmsee, West Prussia, Imperial Germany today Chełmża, Poland. Already his great-grandparents were actors and directors at different operas and theatres. Vespermann began his career in 1913 at the Royal Schauspielhaus Berlin and first appeared in silent movies in 1915. Kurt Vespermann was married to actress Lia Eibenschütz and was the father of actor Gerd Vespermann. Vespermann died in 1957 and was buried at the ''Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtnis'' cemetery in Berlin. Rudolf Rittner
Rudolf Rittner (30 June 1869 – 4 February 1943) was a German actor born in Weissbach, Moravia, famous for playing knight and folk hero Florian Geyer in Gerhart Hauptmann's drama of the same name. The well-known German painter Lovis Corinth portrayed him in 1906. Only one year later, at the age of 38, Rittner being at the peak of his career retired as theatrical actor. In 1922, he returned as actor in several German movies, especially in Fritz Lang's 1924 silent masterpiece ''Die Nibelungen'' with Rittner starring as Markgraf Rüdiger von Bechlarn. When he died in 1943, Rittner left two dramas, one of them being ''Narrenglanz'' (A Fool's Glory), an allegory on modern acting. Rudolf Rittner died in Weissbach and is buried on the local cemetery.
