The Man From Texas (1948 Film)
''The Man from Texas'' is a 1948 American Western film starring James Craig and Lynn Bari. The film was directed by Leigh Jason, with Earl Robinson serving as the film composer. It is credited as being based on the 1938 play and novel ''Missouri Legend'' by Elizabeth Beall Ginty that was based on Jesse James. It was produced by Bryan Foy for Eagle-Lion Films. The film's sets were designed by the art director Edward L. Ilou. Plot Tobias Simms leads two lives, as a husband and father and as the outlaw called the El Paso Kid. He is of two minds whether to be an honest self supporting father or an outlaw. He compromises by using the skills of the latter to lead a life as the former. Johnny Johnston (December 1, 1915 – January 6, 1996) was an American actor and singer who was popular in the 1940s. Early years He was born John Clifford Johnston in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. Radio In the late 1930s, Johnston had his own program on NBC-Blue. Recordings Johnston had several hits on the Capitol Records, Capitol label. Personal life Johnston was married five times, and had five children. Eagle-Lion Films Films
Eagle-Lion Films was a British-American film production company owned by J. Arthur Rank intended to distribute British productions in the United States. In 1947, it acquired Robert R. Young's PRC Pictures, a small American production company, to produce low-budget features to accompany its British releases. The studio, which was located at 7324 Santa Monica Boulevard (one block away from the Samuel Goldwyn Studios), became a producer of B-movies. Eagle-Lion was also a film distribution company under the name of Eagle-Lion Distributors Limited in the United Kingdom and Eagle-Lion Films Inc. in the United States. Reed Hadley (born Reed Herring, June 25, 1911 – December 11, 1974) was an American film, television and radio actor. Early life Hadley was born in Petrolia, Texas, to Bert Herring, an oil well driller, and his wife Minnie. Hadley had one sister, Bess Brenner. He was reared in Buffalo, New York, where he attended and graduated from Bennett High School. Sarah Ellen Allgood (30 October 1880 – 13 September 1950), known as Sara Allgood, was an Irish-American actress. She first studied drama with the Irish nationalist Daughters of Ireland and was at the opening of the Irish National Theatre Society. In 1904, she had her first big role in ''Spreading the News'' and was a full-time actress the following year. In 1915, she toured Australia and New Zealand as the lead in ''Peg o' My Heart''. Her acting career continued in Dublin, London, and the U.S. She appeared in a number of films, most notably being nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Beth Morgan in the 1941 film ''How Green Was My Valley''.
