The Man From London (1943 Film)
''The Man from London'' or ''The London Man'' (French: ''L'homme de Londres'') is a 1943 French thriller film directed by Henri Decoin and starring Fernand Ledoux, Suzy Prim and Jules Berry. It is an adaptation of the novel of the same title by the Belgian writer Georges Simenon, which was later turned into the 1947 British film ''Temptation Harbour''.Goble p.800 It was shot at the Buttes-Chaumont Studios in Paris. The film's sets were designed by the art director Serge Piménoff. Synopsis A railway worker at a ferry port discovers a suitcase containing a large sum of money, the proceeds of a crime recently committed in London. He chooses to keep it rather than turn it over to the police, but it ends up luring him into a downwards spiral that eventually ends in murder. Henri Decoin
Henri Decoin (18 March 1890 – 4 July 1969) was a French film director and screenwriter, who directed more than 50 films between 1933 and 1964. He was also a swimmer who won the national title in 1911 and held the national record in the 500 m freestyle. He competed in the 400 m freestyle at the 1908 Summer Olympics and in the water polo tournament at the 1912 Summer Olympics. Biography During World War I, Decoin served as a pilot. Gaston Modot (31 December 1887 – 20 February 1970) was a French actor. For more than 50 years he performed for the cinema working with a number of great French directors. Biography Modot lived in Montmartre at the beginning of the 20th century where he met Picasso and Modigliani. In 1909 he started his career with Gaumont and for the following 20 years he covered all silent film genres. In 1917 he was the main actor in Abel Gance's ''Mater dolorosa''.
