The Magic Christian (film)
''The Magic Christian'' is a 1969 British satirical farce black comedy film directed by Joseph McGrath and starring Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr, with appearances by John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Raquel Welch, Spike Milligan, Christopher Lee, Richard Attenborough and Roman Polanski. It was loosely adapted from the 1959 comic novel '' The Magic Christian'' by the American author Terry Southern, who co-wrote the screenplay adaptation with McGrath. The film also features pre-Monty Python appearances of John Cleese (credited) and an uncredited Graham Chapman, who had jointly written an earlier version of the film script. Joseph McGrath (film Director)
Joseph McGrath (born 28 March 1928) is a Scottish film and television director and screenwriter. He was born in Glasgow and studied at Glasgow School of Art in the late 1940s and early 1950s where his energy and talent was much admired by his contemporaries. McGrath is best known for his collaborations with ''The Goon Show'' stars Peter Sellers and Spike Milligan. Ken Thorne
Kenneth Thorne (26 January 1924 – 9 July 2014) was a British television and film score composer. Early life Thorne was born in Dereham, a town in the English county of Norfolk. Thorne began his musical career as a pianist with the big bands of England during the 1940s, playing at night clubs and the dance halls. At age 27, Thorne decided to seriously study composition with private tutors at Cambridge and later studied the organ for five years in London. Film scoring Thorne began composing scores for films in 1948. He was considered Richard Lester's composer of choice since their first work together on ''It's Trad, Dad!'' (1962), ''Help!'' ''Magic Christian Music'' is the second studio album by the British rock band Badfinger, released on 9 January 1970 on Apple Records. It was the first release under the band's new name as Badfinger. The band had previously released the album '' Maybe Tomorrow'', in 1969, under the name The Iveys. Three tracks from the LP are featured in the film '' The Magic Christian'', which also gives the album its title. However, ''Magic Christian Music'' is not an official soundtrack album for the film. History The film soundtrack for ''The Magic Christian'' featured three new songs by Badfinger that had been commissioned for the film, including their US/UK top-10 hit " Come and Get It"', which opened the film, and "Carry on Till Tomorrow", the title theme. Badfinger
Badfinger were a Welsh rock band formed in Swansea, who were active from the 1960s to the 1980s. Their best-known lineup consisted of Pete Ham (vocals, guitar), Mike Gibbins (drums), Tom Evans (bass), and Joey Molland (guitar). They are recognised for their influence on the 1970s power pop genre. It is estimated that the band sold 14 million records. The band renamed themselves Badfinger, after the working title for the Beatles' 1967 song "With a Little Help from My Friends" ("Bad Finger Boogie").
