John Roche (actor)
John Roche (February 6, 1893 – November 10, 1952) was an American actor of the stage and screen. Biography Roche was born in the small village of Penn Yan, New York, on February 6, 1893. He graduated from the University of Rochester, after which he began his acting career touring with stock companies during the 1910s and early 1920s. In 1922, he broke into the film industry with a featured role in ''The Good Provider''. During the 1920s, he acted in both films and on stage, including several roles in Broadway productions. He acted steadily in films until 1936, in both featured and supporting roles. In the mid-1930s he took a break from films, focusing on the stage, including directing the play, ''Mackerel Skies'', which had a short run at the Playhouse Theatre in New York in 1936. Roche returned to films in 1941, with a small role in the Norma Shearer vehicle, ''We Were Dancing'' (1942), based on the Noël Coward play of the same name. Gayne Whitman (born Alfred D. Vosburgh; March 19, 1890 – August 31, 1958) was an American radio and film actor. He appeared in more than 200 films between 1904 and 1957. In some early films he was credited under his birth name. He was born in Chicago, Illinois. Whitman's theatrical debut came when he carried a spear behind an actor portraying King Richard III in a production in Indianapolis. As Allen Vosburgh, he was the leading man in the film ''Princess of the Dark'' (1917). Soon after that, he changed his screen name to Alfred Whitman because "1917 was not a good time to have a German sounding name." Beginning in 1921, Whitman acted at the Morosco Theater in Los Angeles. He returned to films in 1925 when he received a contract with Warner Bros. Charles David Farrell (August 9, 1900 – May 6, 1990) was an American film actor of the 1920s silent era and into the 1930s, and later a television actor. Farrell is probably best recalled for his onscreen romances with actress Janet Gaynor in more than a dozen films, including '' 7th Heaven'', '' Street Angel'', and '' Lucky Star.'' Early years Clifford was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, the daughter of parents who were both born in England. Following her mother's death when Ruth was 11, she and her sister were placed in St. Mary's Seminary in Narragansett, Rhode Island.
