The London Free Press
''The London Free Press'' is a daily newspaper based in London, Ontario, Canada. It has the largest circulation of any newspaper in Southwestern Ontario. History ''The London Free Press'' began as the ''Canadian Free Press'', founded by William Sutherland. It first began printing as a weekly newspaper on January 2, 1849. In 1852, it was purchased for $500 by Josiah Blackburn (and Stephen Blackburn), who renamed it ''The London Free Press and Daily Western Advertiser''. In 1855 Blackburn turned the weekly newspaper into a daily. From 1863 to 1936 ''The London Free Press'' competed for readership with the '' London Advertiser'', which was a daily evening newspaper. A newspaper is a periodical publication containing written information about current events and is often typed in black ink with a white or gray background. Sun Media Corporation
Sun Media Corporation was the owner of several tabloid and broadsheet newspapers in Canada and the 49 percent owner of the now defunct Sun News Network. It was a subsidiary of Quebecor Media. On October 6, 2014, Quebecor Media announced the sale of the remaining English-language print assets of Sun Media to rival Postmedia. The sale included neither the Sun News Network, which subsequently closed when a buyer was not found, nor Quebecor's French-language papers ''Le Journal de Montréal'' and ''Le Journal de Québec''. Bob Ferguson (journalist)
Robert Ferguson (July 1, 1931November 23, 2014) was a Canadian sports journalist and writer. He began in journalism with ''The London Free Press'' from 1952 to 1964, and was colour commentator for baseball games broadcast on CFPL (AM). He also served as the official statistician of the Intercounty Baseball League from 1958 to 1966, and owned the London Majors, London Pontiacs in the same league during the 1963 and 1964 seasons. He later worked for the ''Ottawa Citizen'' from 1967 to 1996, and was the paper's first writer assigned to cover the Montreal Expos. He believed in giving angry athletes a second chance at a better quote to avoid making the player look bad, and was a board member for Canada's Sports Hall of Fame. He wrote ''Who's Who in Canadian Sport'', a book of biographies for Canadian sports persons; first published in 1977, with subsequent volumes in 1985, 1999 and 2005. Victoria Grace Blackburn
Victoria Grace Blackburn (17 April 1865 – 4 March 1928) was a Canadian journalist and author. Biography Blackburn was born on April 17, 1865 in Quebec City. In 1894, after studying at Hellmuth Ladies' College, Blackburn began writing for the ''London Free Press''. In 1890s she also worked as a teacher. The paper was published by her father, Josiah Blackburn, and, later, by her brother, Walter Josiah Blackburn. In 1900 she became the paper's literary and drama critic. Blackburn studied criticism in New York and spent some years in Europe with her sisters. In 1918 she returned to Canada and became managing editor of the ''London Free Press''. She stayed in that position for a decade and was an important figure among London's cultural elite. Beyond her journalism, Blackburn published dozens of poems, two plays and a novel. Print circulation is the average number of copies of a publication. The number of copies of a non-periodical publication (such as a book) are usually called print run. The ''Simcoe Reformer'' is a newspaper circulating in Norfolk County, Ontario and Haldimand County, Ontario, both in Canada. The ''Reformer'' is published weekdays. History In 1858, Dr William H. Oliver, who had written for and edited a number of periodicals in the early 1800s, established a weekly newspaper called ''The Erie News'' in Simcoe. After publishing for three years, the newspaper was sold to William Buckingham (publisher), William Buckingham in 1861, who renamed it ''The Norfolk Reformer''. Buckingham edited the paper for 18 months under the motto, "The Price of Freedom is Eternal Vigilance". In 1922, the ''Norfolk Reformer'' and another newspaper, ''The Simcoe British Canadian'', were purchased by the Pearce Publishing Company, which amalgamated them to create ''The Simcoe Reformer''.
