The Lollipop Shoppe
The Lollipop Shoppe was an American garage rock band formed in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1966. In 1964, Fred Cole ( lead vocals) recorded his first single, a R&B original with a group known as the Lords, but the band proved to be short-lived, and in 1966, Cole formed the Weeds. The Weeds consisted of Cole, Eddie Bowen (guitar), Ron Buzzell (guitar), Bob Atkins (bass guitar), and Tim Rockson ( drums). After releasing a single, "It's Your Time". on the local Teenbeat Club label, the group headed to San Francisco, where they had been promised a gig at the legendary Fillmore Auditorium. Upon arrival, however, they learned that nobody associated with the Fillmore knew anything about the gig. It was around this time that the band members, who were all of draftable age, decided to relocate to Canada. Garage rock (sometimes called garage punk or 60s punk) is a raw and energetic style of rock and roll that flourished in the mid-1960s, most notably in the United States and Canada, and has experienced a series of subsequent revivals. The style is characterized by basic chord (music), chord structures played on electric guitars and other instruments, sometimes distorted through a distortion (music), fuzzbox, as well as often unsophisticated and occasionally aggressive lyrics and delivery. Black Lips is an American garage rock band from Atlanta, Georgia formed in 1999. History The band formed in Dunwoody, Georgia after guitarist Cole Alexander and bassist Jared Swilley left the Renegades, and guitarist Ben Eberbaugh left the Reruns. Alexander and Swilley were known for their crude antics both during shows and at school. They were kicked out of school during their senior year after the Columbine Massacre in 1999 because they were regarded as a "subculture danger." Drummer Joe Bradley, who had been studying in college after graduating high school early, joined a few months later. They released their first 7-inch in 2002 with tracks from their first ever studio LP ~ completed in 2000 with producer/guitarist Eric Gagnon of ''The El Caminos''. Lost Sounds
Lost Sounds was a rock band from Memphis, Tennessee. Starting in March 1999, the band was made up of Rich Crook on drums, Patrick Jordan on bass, Jay Reatard on synth, guitar and vocals, and Alicja Trout on synth, guitar and vocals. The band, originally working within the garage rock genre, had a collection of analog keyboards Trout had used in her previous band The Clears. The bizarre combination of new wave synths and mangled guitars showed a dark wave influence as well. The band frequently dealt with dark, apocalyptic themes ranging from the Book of Revelation (''Breathing Machine'') to the Columbine High School shootings (''Blackcoats/Whitefear''). The Cynics
The Cynics are an American garage rock band from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The band, at the time consisting of guitarist Gregg Kostelich, drummer Bill Von Hagen, vocalist Michael Kastelic who joined in 1985, bass player Steve Magee, and keyboardist Becky Smith (later founder of New York City's Bellwether gallery), debuted with their first album, ''Blue Train Station'' in 1986. Many of their songs "carry the torch" for other favorite bands as cover songs or tributes. They underwent a number of lineup changes culminating in 1989's ''Rock and Roll'' album. They formed their own independent record label called Get Hip Records in 1986. The Philisteins
The Philisteins were a garage punk band formed in Hobart in 1985 as The Cheesemongers with a line-up including; Aydn Hibberd on guitar, vocals and harmonica; and Guy Lucas on guitar, vocals and organ. In 1986 Konrad Park joined on drums and they adopted a new name, The Philisteins. In late 1986 they issued their debut album, ''Reverberations'', and soon after relocated to Adelaide and signed with local label, Greasy Pop Records. In December 1988 they released an eight-track extended play, ''Bloody Convicts'', Ian Wettenhall on bass guitar and Nick Bruer on drums.
