The Little Riders
''The Little Riders'' is a book by Margaretha Shemin, that was made into a television movie in 1996 which aired on the Disney Channel. It tells the story of Joanna Hunter, a young Dutch-American girl who goes to visit her grandparents in the Netherlands, when the Nazis occupy the village. Joanna must protect the statues in the town's clock tower of the freedom fighters who defended the village, when the Nazis threaten to destroy them. The movie had a mix of British and international talent. Johanna was played by Noley Thornton. Fellow American Luke Edwards also starred. British Legends like Paul Scofield, Rosemary Harris and Malcolm McDowell were the adult leads. Derek de Lint, Renée Soutendijk, Hidde Maas and Wim Serlie also starred from the Netherlands along with other Brits such as Benedick Blythe, Christopher Villiers and Martin Delaney in smaller roles. Christopher Francis Villiers (born 7 September 1960) is an English actor, screenwriter and producer. Biography Villiers was born in London, the son of Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve Wing commander David Hugh Villiers (1921–1962) and his second wife, Elizabeth Barbara, daughter of Leonard Hobbins. Many television films have been produced for Disney Channel, an American family-oriented basic cable channel and former premium television channel since its launch on April 18, 1983. De Rijp
De Rijp is a village and former island in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Alkmaar, and lies about 10 km northwest of Purmerend, between the Schermer and the Beemster polders. Before the poldering of the lakes surrounding it, De Rijp was famous for its herring industry. Today it is known for its characteristic rijksmonuments, which include some of the oldest wooden houses of North Holland. De Rijp was a separate municipality until 1970, when it merged with Graft.
