The Listening (Lights Album)
''The Listening'' is the debut studio album by Canadian recording artist Lights. It was released on September 22, 2009, by Sire Records, with global distribution handled by parent Warner Music Group, although in Lights' native Canada the album is released instead by Universal Music Canada under licence. By July 2017, the album was certified platinum by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA), denoting sales in excess of 80,000 copies. Critical reception ''The Listening'' received generally positive reviews from music critics. ''Billboard'' contributor Mark Sutherland called the album a more accessible take on UK electronic music artists like Little Boots and La Roux. Lights Poxleitner-Bokan (born Valerie Anne Poxleitner; April 11, 1987), known mononymously as Lights (previously stylized as LIGHTS), is a Canadian musician, singer, and songwriter. She is known for singles "Drive My Soul", "February Air", "Ice", "Second Go", "Toes", "My Boots" and "Up We Go", which have charted within the top ninety on the Canadian Hot 100. Her work has earned multiple Juno Awards and Canadian Independent Music Awards. Her debut EP ''Lights'' was released in July 2008 and achieved commercial success which enabled the release of her first full-length album, '' The Listening'', on September 22, 2009. Ice (Lights Song)
"Ice" is a song by Canadian singer-songwriter Lights from her debut self-titled EP and debut album '' The Listening''. It was originally released in April as a single for her EP. A remastered version of the song was featured on her debut album, and later released as a single on October 12, 2009. Background "Ice" is driven by a new wave synth line and includes a keyboard solo. Music videos First version The beginning portion of the video was done by Lights herself. She worked on all the props herself at her house for a week. The monsters are played by Maurie Kaufmann and Adam Weaver, her two live musicians. The video for "Ice" consists mostly of two scenes. The first features a 2D cutout figured of Lights and two monsters. It shows Lights walking along a street texting her boyfriend sad faces and sorry notes. Toro was a Canadian men’s magazine. It was named by its owner, Christopher Bratty. The editorial was overseen by Derek Finkle. Cameron Williamson and Alicia Kowalewski were the creative and art directors, respectively.
