The Libertine (album)
''The Libertine: Music for the Film by Laurence Dunmore'' is the album release of Michael Nyman's score for the 2004 film '' The Libertine'' directed by Laurence Dunmore. It is the third release on Nyman's own label, MN Records, and the first to receive distribution in the United States, by Inner Knot Records. It is his 50th album release overall. When Naxos Records began distributing MN Records in the United States in 2008, it was included and began appearing in large quantities in stores. This is Nyman's last score for a major motion picture to date, and his last soundtrack release, other than compilation soundtracks. The score includes the song "If" (as "Rochester's farewell", with partially changed lyrics, removal of the quotes from "Time Lapse" from ''A Zed & Two Noughts'', and the addition of a setting of the '' Kyrie'') performed by Hilary Summers, who originally performed it in the film, ''The Diary of Anne Frank'' (1995). Michael Laurence Nyman, Order of the British Empire, CBE (born 23 March 1944) is an English composer, pianist, libretto, librettist, musicologist, and filmmaker. He is known for numerous film soundtrack, scores (many written during his lengthy collaboration with the film director, filmmaker Peter Greenaway), and his multi-platinum The Piano (soundtrack), soundtrack album to Jane Campion's ''The Piano''. Nick Cooper
Nick Cooper (born May 27, 1968) is an American drummer, record producer and composer best known for his work with Free Radicals. Nick is also an activist with food not bombs, and an editor for Houston Peace News. He is also a documentary filmmaker (on the topic of somatherapy), a workshop facilitator, a student of capoeira angola, and a visual artist. Biography Cooper was born in New York and grew up in Manhattan. He played in bands in high-school and began political activism at that time with the anti-Apartheid movement. He was an English major at Rice University in Houston, where he joined the band Sprawl. Sprawl toured the U.S. many times, and released four CDs, breaking up in 1994. Tony Hinnigan
Anthony Hinnigan is a musician from Glasgow. He is best known for his work with Michael Nyman (having been cellist for the Michael Nyman Band since 1987), Ennio Morricone, and James Horner. He plays cello as well as Irish whistle and various Andean woodwind instruments. John Metcalfe (composer)
John Metcalfe (born 6 August 1964) is a British-based composer, arranger and viola, violist, member of the Duke Quartet and a former member of the band The Durutti Column. Biography Metcalfe was born in New Zealand and moved to the United Kingdom as a child. Metcalfe studied viola at the Royal Northern College of Music and later at the Hochschule in Berlin. During this period he joined Vini Reilly in The Durutti Column. Metcalfe's unique style is a result of his extensive experience in classical, pop and electronica. As violist with the Duke Quartet he released many CDs and toured worldwide.
