The LeRoi Brothers
The LeRoi Brothers are an American rock band from Austin, Texas. The group was founded in 1981 by Mike Buck (also of The Fabulous Thunderbirds), Don Leady, Steve Doerr, and Alex Napier. The group was a long-running Austin bar band, but achieved national success with the album ''Open All Night'', which reached #181 on the ''Billboard'' 200 in 1987. Former member Alex Napier died on February 3, 2011, in Desoto, Texas from liver cancer, aged 59. On March 12, 2014, The LeRoi Brothers were inducted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame. Former member Evan Johns died from complications of liver disease on March 11, 2017, at the age of 60 in Austin, Texas. The Fabulous Thunderbirds
The Fabulous Thunderbirds are an American blues band formed in 1974. Career After performing for several years in the Austin, Texas blues scene, the band won a recording contract with Takoma/Chrysalis Records and later signed with Epic Records. In 2011, they signed with Severn Records. Their first two albums were released in 1979 and 1980, with Kim Wilson's lead vocals and harmonica, Jimmie Vaughan as lead guitarist, and Keith Ferguson on bass guitar. Mike Buck was on drums for the first album but left the band and was replaced by Fran Christina on the second. Both albums initially sold through the small number printed (about 3000 units) and are now regarded as significant blues recordings. The Thunderbirds' blues style mixed Texas blues with the harmonica-laced swamp blues sounds of Slim Harpo and Lazy Lester—both of whom the Thunderbirds covered. Michael "Cub" Koda (born October 1, 1948 – July 1, 2000) was an American rock and roll singer, guitarist, songwriter, disc jockey, music critic, and record compiler. ''Rolling Stone'' magazine considered him best known for writing the song " Smokin' in the Boys Room", recorded by Brownsville Station, which reached number 3 on the 1974 Billboard chart. He co-wrote and edited the ''All Music Guide to the Blues'', and ''Blues for Dummies'', and selected a version of each of the classic blues songs on the CD accompanying the book. Desoto, Texas
DeSoto is a city in Dallas County, Texas, in the United States. DeSoto is a suburb of Dallas and is part of the Best Southwest area, which includes DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, and Lancaster. History The area was first settled in 1847, making it one of the oldest communities in North Texas. A post office was established in 1881, and the settlement was named DeSoto in honor of Thomas Hernando DeSoto Stewart, a doctor dedicated to the community. Mike Buck
Mike Buck (born June 17, 1952) is an Austin, Texas-based drummer and co-owner of Antone's Record Shop located in downtown Austin. Career Born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, Buck began playing drums at the age of 12. By his mid teens, he was playing in various Fort Worth-area clubs with artists such Robert Ealey, Ray Sharpe, Johnny Carroll, and Bubbles Cash. Buck moved to Austin in the mid-1970s and joined the blues rock group, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, along with Keith Ferguson, Jimmie Vaughan, and Kim Wilson. Joe Doerr
Joe Doerr (born November 15, 1961) a.k.a. Joe Francis Doerr is an American, Austin, Texas-based singer-songwriter and poet. Career A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Doerr moved to Austin, Texas in 1983 to join The LeRoi Brothers, a roots-rock band formed by Mike Buck, Don Leady, Alex Napier, and Doerr's older brother Steve. Doerr, whose spirited performing style caught the attention of "The Dean of American Rock Critics" Robert Christgau, appeared on several records with The LeRoi Brothers including the Columbia Records EP "Forget About the Danger, Think of the Fun." Doerr also toured extensively with the band throughout Europe and the US and gave a memorable performance on Austin City Limits before leaving the group in 1986 to pursue other interests.
