The Late Late Show (season 47)
The 47th season of ''The Late Late Show'', the world's longest-running chat show, began on 5 September 2008 and concluded on 29 May 2009. It aired on RTÉ One each Friday evening from 21:30. As by then customary, the series featured a variety of unpleasant moments for the presenter, Pat Kenny, who grappled with issues as diverse as viewer telephone competitions, contentious performances and perplexing interviewees. This season also marked the only occasion on which Kenny was absent during his ten-year tenure, following the unexpected death of his mother. Gerry Ryan guest-hosted the 24 October edition of the show in Kenny's absence. In February 2009, Kenny was widely criticised by the Irish media for his attempted interview of the Pete Doherty, when he personalised the English rock musician and ignored his music. It is the world's second longest-running late-night talk show, after the American ''The Tonight Show''. In an episode of '' The Russell Brand Show'' broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday 18 October 2008, comedian Russell Brand and presenter Jonathan Ross made prank calls to actor Andrew Sachs that created controversy in the United Kingdom. Brand and Ross called Sachs to interview him on air; when he did not answer, they left lewd messages on his answering machine, including comments about Brand's relationship with Sachs' granddaughter Georgina Baillie. After initially receiving little attention, a 26 October article in ''The Mail on Sunday'' led to widespread criticism of Brand, Ross and the editorial decisions of the BBC. The event became known as Sachsgate or Manuelgate (a reference to Sachs' ''Fawlty Towers'' character Manuel). Andreas Siegfried Sachs (7 April 1930 – 23 November 2016), known professionally as Andrew Sachs, was a German-born British actor and writer. He made his name on British television and found his greatest fame for his portrayal of the comical Spanish waiter Manuel in '' Fawlty Towers''. Dún Laoghaire
Dún Laoghaire ( , ) is a suburban coastal town in Dublin in Ireland. It is the administrative centre of Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown. The town was built following the 1816 legislation that allowed the building of a major port to serve Dublin. Down syndrome or Down's syndrome, also known as trisomy 21, is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of all or part of a third copy of chromosome 21.
