The Late Great Tim Buckley
''The Late Great Tim Buckley'' is a compilation LP by Tim Buckley. The album consists of recordings from five of Buckley's studio albums: ''Tim Buckley'', '' Goodbye and Hello'', '' Happy Sad'', '' Greetings from L.A. and Sefronia''. The compilation was the first Buckley LP to be released posthumously and was only released in Australia. It would be another 5 years until the next release, ''The Best of Tim Buckley'', highlighting the decline of Buckley's popularity in the latter stages of his career before his death. The compilation provides a sparse overview of Buckley's career, omitting music from '' Lorca'', ''Blue Afternoon'' and '' Starsailor'' and focusing instead on the more commercial periods of Buckley's recording years. The album is currently out of print. Fred Neil
Fred Neil (March 16, 1936 – July 7, 2001) was an American folk singer-songwriter active in the 1960s and early 1970s. He did not achieve commercial success as a performer and is mainly known through other people's recordings of his material – particularly " Everybody's Talkin", which became a hit for Harry Nilsson after it was used in the film ''Midnight Cowboy'' in 1969. Though highly regarded by contemporary folk singers, he was reluctant to tour and spent much of the last 30 years of his life assisting with the preservation of dolphins. Life and career Fred Neil was born Frederick Ralph Morlock Jr., in Cleveland, Ohio, just two weeks after his parents, Frederick Ralph Morlock and Lura Camp Riggs, married. Jerry Goldstein (musician)
Gerald Goldstein (born February 17, 1940) is an American producer, singer-songwriter, talent manager, music executive, musician and entrepreneur. He was one of the members of The Strangeloves, the co-writer of " My Boyfriend's Back" (a hit song in 1963 for The Angels) and "Come on Down to My Boat", the producer and songwriter of War, and the former manager of Sly Stone. Goldstein produced a single with teenage singer, Nancy Baron in 1963 ("where did my Jimmy go?"/"Ta la la, I love you") for the Diamond Record label. Goldstein was part of a three-person production team which wrote and produced numerous records which are referred to as "FGG"-Feldman, Goldstein and Gottehrer. Larry Beckett
Larry Beckett (born April 4, 1947) is an American poet, songwriter, musician, and literary critic. As a songwriter and music arranger, Beckett collaborated with Tim Buckley in the late 1960s and early 1970s on several songs and albums, including the critically acclaimed " Song to the Siren" which has been recorded by many artists, from This Mortal Coil to Robert Plant. He has also collaborated with British group The Long Lost Band, and local Portland indie band Eyelids. Beckett has had several books of poetry published including ''Songs and Sonnets'', ''Beat Poetry'', and a few book-length poems entitled ''Paul Bunyan'', ''Wyatt Earp'', and '' Amelia Earhart''. ''Goodbye and Hello'' is the second album by Tim Buckley, released in August 1967, recorded in Los Angeles, California, in June of the same year. The album was later re-released on January 22, 2001, in a compilation with debut album ''Tim Buckley'' by WEA/ Elektra. In 2005 a 180-gram version of the LP was released on the label Four Men With Beards and is being distributed by City Hall Records. Recording The album was recorded during June 1967 in Los Angeles, and produced by Jerry Yester and Jac Holzman. Legacy Matthew Greenwald in a retrospective review for AllMusic felt that it is "an excellent and revolutionary album that was a quantum leap for both Tim Buckley and the audience". "Once I Was" is a 1967 song by singer-songwriter Tim Buckley, and the sixth track from his album '' Goodbye and Hello''. The song prominently features harmonica played by folk musician and rock photographer Henry Diltz. Lyrics The song reflects the point of view of someone who used to be the lover of an unknown subject, but continues to ponder if the subject ever reflects on the experience similarly. Other performances Tim Buckley's son, Jeff, recorded a cover of this song for a tribute concert to Tim in 1991. The song has also been covered by Gregg Allman. Starsailor (album)
''Starsailor'' is the sixth studio album by Tim Buckley, released on Herb Cohen's Straight Records label in November 1970. ''Starsailor'' marks the moment Buckley's folk rock origins became invisible as he fully incorporated jazz rock and avant-garde styles into his music. Although it alienated elements of his fanbase upon release, it also contains his best known song, " Song to the Siren". This more accessible song was written much earlier than ''Starsailors newer material, originally in a more traditional folk arrangement, as shown on the later released compilation album '' Morning Glory: The Tim Buckley Anthology''. Bunk Gardner, a former member of the Mothers of Invention, joined Buckley's normal band to record the album. Also, Buckley began working again with lyricist Larry Beckett, after a three-album hiatus.
