The Last Of The Baskets
''The Last of the Baskets'' was a British television situation comedy produced by Granada and starring Arthur Lowe that ran for two series in the early 1970s. It was written by John Stevenson, with one episode (Series 2, Episode 5, "The Hound of the Baskets") written by Andy Mayer. John Stevenson (scriptwriter)
John Stevenson (born 1937) is a British screenwriter who, between 1976 and 2006, was a regular writer on Britain's longest-running soap opera, Coronation Street. Career He was originally a newspaper journalist, before transitioning into screenwriting in the late 1960s. Bill Podmore
Edgar William Podmore (15 August 1931 – 22 January 1994) was a British television producer. Born in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, he is best remembered for his long association with the soap opera ''Coronation Street'', a series he produced for twelve years (1976–1988). Biography Initially a Royal Air Force pilot, he became a TV cameraman for the BBC, shortly after with Granada Television and later, a director. Arthur Lowe
Arthur Lowe (22 September 1915 – 15 April 1982) was an English actor. His acting career spanned 36 years, including starring roles in numerous theatre and television productions. He played Captain Mainwaring in the British sitcom ''Dad's Army'' from 1968 until 1977, was nominated for seven BAFTAs and became one of the most recognised faces on UK television. Lowe began acting professionally in England in 1945, after army service in the Second World War. He worked in theatre, film and television throughout the 1950s but it was not until he landed the part of Leonard Swindley in the television soap ''Coronation Street'' in 1960 that he came to national attention. Situation Comedy
A sitcom, a portmanteau of situation comedy, or situational comedy, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who mostly carry over from episode to episode. Sitcoms can be contrasted with sketch comedy, where a troupe may use new characters in each sketch, and stand-up comedy, where a comedian tells jokes and stories to an audience. Sitcoms originated in radio, but today are found mostly on television as one of its dominant narrative forms. A situation comedy television program may be recorded in front of a studio audience, depending on the program's production format. Kenneth J Jones (20 February 1930 – 13 February 2014) was an English actor. Jones was born in Liverpool. After working as a signwriter and performing as an amateur, he trained at RADA. John "Steve" Stevenson (10 July 1930 – 27 November 2017) was a British writer who, under the pen name Marcus van Heller, wrote erotic fiction for the ''Traveller's Companion'' series of Olympia Press publisher (1955–1961). Later he also wrote under the pen name Stephen John. Career In 1954, at the age of 23, John Stevenson arrived for a sojourn in Paris, where he socialised with the expatriate community behind the modernist literary magazine '' Merlin''.
