Alexander Butler
Alexander Butler was a British film director who made over sixty features and short films during the 1910s and 1920s including many for G. B. Samuelson's production company. Butler directed several British films in Hollywood in 1920, where Samuelson had made an arrangement with Universal Pictures. Leal Douglas
Leal Douglas (born Lilly Elizabeth Annie Lamb; 25 March 1881 – 3 February 1970) was a British-Australian actress, mainly of the silent film era. Of Scottish and English parents, Douglas emigrated to Australia as a child and began her stage career there. She took her own company to South Africa, then returned to England for her main film career, during which she had some leading roles. In 1927, she went back to Australia, where she resumed her stage career, and then in the 1940s again returned to England. Life Douglas was born in March 1881, the daughter of Mary Ann Emily and Richard Douglas Lamb, a musician originally from Scotland, the son of another Richard Lamb, also a musician. Her mother was from the village of Chalford in Gloucestershire, and her parents had been married in Salford in May 1880. Daphne Glenne (1886–1972), born Dorothy Cornelius, was an English leading actress in musical theatre and silent film in the period around 1910–1920. Biography She was born and grew up in Blackheath in south-east London. She adopted the stage name Daphne Glenne in response to her father's disapproval of her seeking a career on the stage, and she continued to use this as her name throughout her life. She began her theatrical career as a chorister with the D’Oyly Carte Company at the Savoy Theatre in 1906–1907, at one point taking a minor role in the Gilbert and Sullivan opera Iolanthe. Subsequently, she was engaged by George Edwardes to play in his touring production of Franz Lehár’s ''The Merry Widow''. Initially she played Olga, but quickly took over the title role of Sonia, which she performed around Britain from 1908-1910.
