''The Lady of the Camellias'' (French: ''La dame aux camélias'', Italian: ''La signora dalle camelie'') is a 1953 French-Italian historical drama film directed by Raymond Bernard and starring Micheline Presle, Gino Cervi and Roland Alexandre. It is based on the 1848 novel of the same title by Alexandre Dumas.Hayward p.464 It was shot in Gevacolour at the Billancourt Studios in Paris and on location around the city. The film's sets were designed by the art director Léon Barsacq. Raymond Bernard
Raymond Bernard (10 October 1891 – 12 December 1977) was a French film director and screenwriter whose career spanned more than 40 years. He is best remembered for several large-scale historical productions, including the silent films '' Le Miracle des loups'' (''The Miracle of the Wolves'') and '' Le Joueur d'échecs'' (''The Chess Player'') and in the 1930s '' Les Croix de bois'' (''Wooden Crosses'') and a highly regarded adaptation of ''Les Misérables''. Biography Raymond Bernard was born in Paris in 1891, the son of the author and humorist Tristan Bernard and younger brother of the playwright Jean-Jacques Bernard. Alba Arnova
Alba Arnova (15 March 1930 – 11 March 2018) was an Italian-Argentine ballerina and film actress. Life and career Born in Buenos Aires as Alba Fossati, daughter of two Italian emigrants, Arnova studied piano at the Conservatory and enrolled in the university at the medical faculty. She became the principal classical dancer of the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and changed her surname first to Ars Nova and then to Arnova. She left Argentina in 1948, for a six months stage tour, and eventually remained in Rome, where she worked first in theater as a classical dancer and as a revue and avanspettacolo soubrette.
