The Knesset Committee On Education, Culture And Sport
The Knesset Committee on Education, Culture and Sport (Hebrew: ועדת החינוך, התרבות והספורט, ''Vaadat hinuh ha, ha-Tarbut ve-ha-sport'') is a Knesset committee which deals with education, culture, sports and arts in Israel. The committee was established in 1949, during the tenure of the 1st Knesset convocation. The current acting chairman of the committee is member of the Yisrael Beiteinu party Alex Miller. As a commission for education, the committee deals with all matters related to education: regarding schools, kindergartens, education in specific sectors, private education, teaching materials, the teachers, development and investment in various areas, the education budget, financial support for poor students, the education of students with learning disabilities and the higher education in Israel. Hebrew
Hebrew (; ; ) is a Northwest Semitic language of the Afroasiatic language family. Historically, it is one of the spoken languages of the Israelites and their longest-surviving descendants, the Jews and Samaritans. It was largely preserved throughout history as the main liturgical language of Judaism (since the Second Temple period) and Samaritanism. Hebrew is the only Canaanite language still spoken today, and serves as the only truly successful example of a dead language that has been revived. Elimelekh Rimalt
Rabbi Dr Elimelekh-Shimon Rimalt ( he, אלימלך-שמעון רימלט, born 1 November 1907, died 5 November 1987) was a Zionist activist and Israeli politician. He served as Minister of Postal Services between December 1969 and August 1970. Biography Born in Bochnia in the Galicia area of Austria-Hungary, Rimalt studied at a heder and yeshiva, as well as a Hebrew high school in Kraków. While living in Poland he was one of the founders of the Akiva Hebrew Youth Organisation. He went on to study at a rabbinical seminary in Vienna, and gained a PhD in philosophy from the University of Vienna, where he was chairman of the Zionist Students Group. In 1939, he made aliyah to Mandatory Palestine, and worked as headmaster of a school in Ramat Gan. In 1943, he was appointed director of the city's department of education, serving until 1952. Meli Polishook-Bloch ( he, מלי פולישוק-בלוך, born 14 January 1953) is a former Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Shinui and the Secular Faction between 2003 and 2006. Biography Born in Ra'anana, Polishook-Bloch gained a BA in political science and theatre arts and an MA in political science and public policy from Tel Aviv University. She also gained an LLB from the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya. In 1981 she joined Shinui, and served as chair of the party's information committee between 1990 and 1999. Ilan Shalgi ( he, אילן שלגי, born 13 July 1945) is an Israeli lawyer, politician and a former member of the Knesset. Background After his national service in the IDF, in which he served as a lieutenant-colonel, Shalgi gained an LLB and an MA in law from Tel Aviv University. He was a member of the Tel Aviv District Disciplinary Court and National Court of Appeals of the Israeli Bar between 1986 and 1995. Between 1987 and 1990 he was chairman of the Friends of Youth Corps, and in 1993 became Chairman of the National Crude Oil Company directorate, a position he held until 1996. Zevulun Orlev ( he, זבולון אורלב, born 9 November 1945) is an Israeli politician and a former Knesset member, Minister of Welfare & Social Services and leader of the National Religious Party. Orlev is a decorated war hero who received the Medal of Distinguished Service in the Yom Kippur War. Biography Zvulun Orlev was born in Rehovot during the Mandate era. Emanuel Zisman ( bg, Емануел Зисман; he, עמנואל זיסמן, 11 February 1935 – 11 November 2009) was an Israeli politician and ambassador. He served as a member of the Knesset between 1988 and 1999. Dalia Itzik ( he, דליה איציק ''Dalya Itsik''; born 20 October 1952) is a former Israeli politician who last served as a member of the Knesset for Kadima. She has previously served in several ministerial positions, and on 4 May 2006 became the first female speaker of the Knesset, and served as President of Israel in an interim capacity in July 2007. Avraham "Avrum" Burg ( he, אברהם בורג; born 19 January 1955) is an Israeli author, politician and businessman. He was a member of the Knesset, chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel, Speaker of the Knesset, and Interim President of Israel. He was the first Speaker of the Knesset to have been born in Israeli territory after independence in 1948. Michael Bar-Zohar ( he, מיכאל בר-זהר, born 30 January 1938) is an Israeli historian, novelist and politician. He was a member of the Knesset on behalf of the Alignment and Labor Party in the 1980s and early 1990s. Biography Born in Bulgaria, Bar-Zohar immigrated to Israel in 1948. He attended High School Heh in Tel Aviv and went on to study economics and international relations at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Nahman Raz (, 9 December 1924 – 5 July 2015) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for the Alignment between 1983 and 1988. Biography Born Nahman Rizhyk in Ein Harod during the Mandate era, Raz was educated at a high school in kibbutz Geva, before attending the Teachers Seminary at Beit Berl and studying history and literature at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. From 1947 until 1948 he was secretary of the Noar HaOved youth movement. Ora Namir ( he, אורה נמיר, 1 September 1930 – 7 July 2019) was an Israeli politician and diplomat who served as a member of the Knesset from 1974 until 1996, as well as holding the posts of Minister of the Environment and Minister of Labour and Social Welfare during the 1990s. Aharon Yadlin
Aharon Yadlin (; 17 April 1926 – 12 August 2022) was an Israeli educator and politician. Biography Aharon Yadlin was born in Tel Aviv and grew up in moshav Ben Shemen and Rehovot during the Mandate era. He was active in the local scouting movement and served as its national coordinator. In 1946 he participated in the 11 points in the Negev project and was among the founders of kibbutz Be'eri. During the 1948 Arab-Israeli War he joined the Palmah. From 1950 to 1952 he was a member of the executive committee of the Histadrut. He received an MA in history, economics and sociology from the Hebrew University.
