The Kingdom At The End Of The Road
''The Kingdom at the End of the Road'' ( sv, Riket vid vägens slut) is the third book in Jan Guillou, Jan Guillou's The Knight Templar (Crusades trilogy) book series. This book follows the fictional character of Arn Magnusson as he returns home to Sweden after 20 years as a Knights Templar, Knight Templar. The book starts with Arn coming home to the abbey in which he grew up and reuniting with his kinsmen. Arn, now an experienced knight, has great plans for Sweden. To build a superior and centralized fighting force to create a stable peace within the three countries that will one day be known as Sweden. He is also forced to repel two invasions by the Denmark, Danish-supported pretender to the throne, Sverker Karlsson. This book covers the last part of Arn's life and argues that Arn is the ''de facto'' founding father of modern Sweden. Jan Guillou
Jan Oskar Sverre Lucien Henri Guillou (, ; born 17 January 1944) is a French-Swedish author and journalist. Guillou's fame in Sweden was established during his time as an investigative journalist, most notably in 1973 when he and co-reporter Peter Bratt exposed a secret and illegal intelligence organization in Sweden, '' Informationsbyrån'' (IB). He is still active within journalism as a column writer for the Swedish evening tabloid ''Aftonbladet''. Among his books are a series of spy fiction novels about a spy named Carl Hamilton, and a trilogy(+) of historical fiction novels about a Knight Templar, Arn Magnusson. Birger Jarl
Birger Jarl, also known as ''Birger Magnusson'' (21 October 1266), was a Swedish statesman, ''jarl'', and a member of the House of Bjelbo, who played a pivotal role in the consolidation of Sweden. Birger also led the Second Swedish Crusade, which established Swedish rule in Finland. Additionally, he is traditionally attributed to have founded the Swedish capital, Stockholm, around 1250. Birger used the Latin title of ''Dux Sweorum'' ("Duke of Sweden"), and the design of his coronet combined those used by continental European and English dukes. The Road To Jerusalem
''The Road to Jerusalem'' ( sv, Vägen till Jerusalem) is the first book in Jan Guillou's ''The Knight Templar'' book series. The book follows the fictional character of Arn Magnusson from his birth and until he sets off to Jerusalem. Arn is born in Arnäs, Sweden in the year 1150. At the age of 5, he has an accident while climbing a scaffold and is saved due to his mother's prayers to Saint Bernard of Clairvaux. The conditions stated in the prayer for their sons salvation is that he will be donated to God's work on earth. He is to be sent to Varnhem Abbey, to which his mother has donated the land and is so counted as its founder. Because of a dispute of the validity of the donation the Queen of the Swedes harasses the Cistercian monks into flight. The abbot and his subjects relocate to Denmark awaiting the excommunication of the Swedish royal family.
