The Kingdom Within
''The Kingdom Within'' is a 1922 American silent drama film directed by Victor Schertzinger and starring Russell Simpson, Z. Wall Covington, and Gaston Glass.Parish & Pitts p. 336. Plot As described in a film magazine, Caleb Deming (Simpson) always wanted a boy but his son was born paralyzed in his right arm. As a result, Caleb hated the boy, but Amos (Glass) grew up with a keen spiritual insight which he exerted over Emily Preston (Starke), a young woman who lived next door and who was taunted by the villagers because her brother had been in prison. Together Amos and Emily made little wooden toys for the children and soon established a wide reputation. Victor Schertzinger
Victor L. Schertzinger (April 8, 1888 – October 26, 1941) was an American composer, film director, film producer, and screenwriter. His films include ''Paramount on Parade'' (co-director, 1930 in film, 1930), ''Something to Sing About (1937 film), Something to Sing About'' (1937 in film, 1937) with James Cagney, and the first two "Road" pictures ''Road to Singapore'' (1940 in film, 1940) and ''Road to Zanzibar'' (1941 in film, 1941). Pauline Starke (January 10, 1901Some sources say she was born in 1900. – February 3, 1977) was an American silent-film actress. Early years Pauline Starke was born on January 10, 1901, in Joplin, Missouri, the daughter of George W. Starke and Edythe Edna Starke (née Bruce). Starke left school after completing the 5th grade. She accompanied her mother to Los Angeles and caught the attention of D. W. Griffith while her mother was working as an extra. Hallam Cooley (February 8, 1895 – March 20, 1971) was an American actor of the silent era. He appeared in more than 100 films between 1913 and 1936. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, and died in Tiburon, California. Cooley attended Northwestern Military Academy in Highland Park, Illinois, and graduated from the University of Minnesota. Lumber Camp
A logging camp (or lumber camp) is a transitory work site used in the logging industry. Before the second half of the 20th century, these camps were the primary place where lumberjacks would live and work to fell trees in a particular area. Many place names (e.g. Bockman Lumber Camp, Whitestone Logging Camp, Camp Douglas) are legacies of old logging camps. Camps were often placed next to river tributaries so that the winter's log harvest could be floated to the lumbermills in the spring. Design The requirements of the logging industry involved the creation of a working site and housing from the pristine wilderness. The construction of the logging camp consisted of a transformation of the natural environment to the built environment.
