The Kenton Times
''The Kenton Times'' is a daily newspaper founded and based in Hardin County, Ohio. The Times is the second paper to operate in Ada, Ohio, alongside the '' Ada Herald''. Ownership ''The Kenton Times'' is the consolidation of the ''Kenton Daily Democrat'' and the ''Kenton News and Republican''. The two papers merged in 1953 when Ray Barnes purchased the ''Daily Democrat'' from C. E. Flanagan and the ''News and Republican'' from Edwin S. Rutledge. In November 1953, ''The Kenton Times'' began publishing from the former plant of the ''Daily Democrat''. The Kenton Times is currently owned and operated by Ray Barnes INC. Staff The news editor is Tim Thomas, who also serves as a reporter along with Kyle Holsinger. Sean Blevins serves as sports editor. Richard Katterjohn serves as production manager. Hardin County is a county located in the west central portion of the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was 30,696. Its county seat is Kenton. Ada, Ohio
Ada ; ; is a village in Hardin County, Ohio, United States, located about southwest of Toledo. The population was 5,952 at the 2010 census. History Following the 1817 Treaty of Fort Meigs, the Shawnee Indians held reservation land at Hog Creek near Ada. Ada itself was originally called Johnstown, platted in 1853 by S. M. Johnson when the railroad was extended to that point. When a post office was established it was called Ada Post Office, named after the postmaster's daughter, Ada. The post office has been in operation since 1854. Ada has been noted for having one of the shortest place names in Ohio. The National Arbor Day Foundation has qualified Ada as a Tree City USA since 1981. Geography Ada is located at (40.768883, -83.822298). The ''Ada Herald'' is an Ohio weekly newspaper covering Hardin County and parts of Allen and Hancock counties. History & Ownership Starting in June 1885, U.S.G. Cherry, S.B. Wagner, and W.W. Poultney, graduates of Ohio Normal University Ohio Northern University (Ohio Northern or ONU) is a private United Methodist Church–affiliated university in Ada, Ohio. Founded by Henry Solomon Lehr in 1871, ONU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
