''The Kelly Family'' is the third studio album by Euro-American folk band The Kelly Family, released on March 5, 1979 through Polydor. This was the first album released by the label for the band. This was also the first album to be released on shops by the band, and also the first where the band had professional recordings. Informations Background ''The Kelly Family'' was formed in 1974, initially as a hobby by the older siblings, Caroline, Kathy, Paul and John, and one of their cousins, Maribel, when they lived in Spain. They mainly played at other children's parties or in the streets. Popularity began to grow and the hobby became more serious, as Dan and Barbara Kelly joined their sons on the stage. The Kelly Family is an Irish-American music group consisting of a multi-generational family, usually nine siblings who were joined occasionally on stage in their earlier years by their parents. "Danny Boy" is a ballad, written by English songwriter Frederic Weatherly in 1913, and set to the traditional Irish melody of "Londonderry Air". History In 1910, in Bath, Somerset, the English lawyer and lyricist Frederic Weatherly initially wrote the words to "Danny Boy" to a tune other than "Londonderry Air". An alternative story is that Margaret Weatherly sent him a copy of "Londonderry Air" in 1913, Weatherly modified the lyrics of "Danny Boy" to fit its rhyme and meter. Another alternative version of the story has Jess singing the air to Weatherly in 1912 with different lyrics. ''Agur Jaunak'' ("Greetings, Sirs!"), is a Basque song which is sung at particular ceremonies to welcome someone recently arrived or to say goodbye to a friend, or to welcome a visitor as he/she deserves to be. It consists of a form of displaying honour and welcoming those present and the guests. Normally it is sung a cappella in one or various voices, and it is a custom that the audience stand up to hear this song. Born in Leominster, Massachusetts, she is the third child of the musical family group The Kelly Family, a multi-generational pop group that achieved success in Europe in the 1990s. In 1999, Kathy released her first solo album titled ''The Best Of Kathy Kelly'' which, in addition to her best songs from the albums of The Kelly Family (''see'' The Kelly Family discography), contained five new songs. Joseph Maria Kelly (born 20 December 1972) is a musician, songwriter, and athlete of Irish-American descent. Kelly became known as a member of the Kelly Family, however, during the band's hiatus, he appeared primarily as an amateur athlete and participated in various sport competitions.
