The Jason Byrne Show
Jason Byrne (born 25 February 1972) is an Irish stand-up comedian. In August 2008, he made his twelfth Edinburgh Festival Fringe appearance. Byrne previously presented a mid-morning radio show on Phantom FM as well as a comedy chat show ''The Jason Byrne Show'' featuring P. J. Gallagher, and a comedy panel show called ''The Byrne Ultimatum'' on RTÉ Two. He created and starred in a radio show also called ''The Jason Byrne Show'' from 2010 to 2012 on BBC Radio 2. The second series was awarded a Gold Sony Radio Award for Best Comedy. In 2018, he published ''The Accidental Adventures of Onion O'Brien'', a series of books about a young boy growing up in Ireland who has constant bad luck. The book is based on Byrne's childhood. Personal life Byrne was born in Dublin, in the suburb of Ballinteer. Byrne was married to Brenda from 2004 until 2018 and has 2 children. So You Think You're Funny? (SYTYF) is an annual stand-up comedy competition for new acts. The competition began in 1988 in the United Kingdom. The finals are held every August at The Gilded Balloon during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Past winners include Aisling Bea, Dylan Moran, Lee Mack, Peter Kay and David O'Doherty. History ''So You Think You're Funny'' was the idea of Karen Koren, Artistic Director of The Gilded Balloon, in order to discover new comic talent. During the years it has developed into the most influential competition of its kind in the UK, helping start the careers of many of the country's leading comedians including Dylan Moran, Lee Mack, Graham Norton, David O'Doherty and Tommy Tiernan. The Radio Academy Awards, started in 1983, were the most prestigious awards in the British radio industry. For most of their existence, they were run by ZAFER Associates, but in latter years were brought under the control of The Radio Academy. The awards were generally referred to by the name of their first sponsor, Sony, as The Sony Awards, The Sony Radio Awards or variations. In August 2013, Sony announced the end of its sponsorship agreement with The Radio Academy after 32 years. Consequently, the awards were named simply ''The Radio Academy Awards''. Background The idea for ''The Matt Lucas Awards'' stemmed from '' And the Winner Is...'', a radio series presented by Lucas for a number of years prior to the series. The format of the series involves a number of celebrity guests providing nominations for artists or objects in a number of weird and wonderful categories, the winner of which will receive a 'Lucas' award. A pilot episode of the series was filmed in June 2011, and later released to the BBC iPlayer for internet viewing. The layout of the pilot consisted of Lucas in the centre of a studio of people, sitting on a couch, as if at an awards ceremony. ''Every Good Boy Deserves Favour'' is the seventh album by The Moody Blues, released in 1971. Background This album featured the only track to be written by all five members of the band. The opening "Procession" was a piece that was intended to describe the history of music from the beginning of time up until the album's recording. The only three words heard in this track—"desolation," "creation," and "communication"—were similarly used (along with many other "-ation" words) in "One More Time to Live." The album reached #1 on the British album charts, in addition to a three-week stay at #2 in the United States, and produced one top-40 single, "The Story in Your Eyes." ''Dark Ages'' is a British television sitcom, first broadcast as five thirty-minute episodes on ITV in December 1999. It portrayed medieval English villagers fearful of the turn of the new ( second) millennium in the year 999 AD, and parodied contemporary fears at the turn of the third millennium (such as the Millennium Bug) in 1999.
