''Premium Collection: The Japan Covers'', known as in Japan, is a cover album by Andrew W.K. The album, consisting of covers of various J-pop songs, was released in Japan by Universal Music Group on November 26, 2008. The songs were originally marketed as 30-second ringtones and repackaged in their complete versions as this 14-song album. Andrew W.K. is quoted as saying that this album is a "gift to the Japanese people, for all the incredible warmth and kindness they've given me over the years." Shima Uta (The Boom Song)
is a 1992 song by the Japanese band The Boom. It was written by the lead singer, Kazufumi Miyazawa, based on his impressions from visiting Okinawa for a photo shoot. It is the band's best selling song, well known throughout Japan and Argentina, and one of the most widely known songs associated with Okinawa although the band members are all from Yamanashi Prefecture. The song uses a mix of modern pop and rock styles as well as min'yō. Okinawan musical instruments and Okinawan vocabulary have been incorporated into the song. The song itself was used in an advertising campaign for the Xi brand awamori. Origin In a 2003 interview for fRoots, Miyazawa explained that he got the idea for the song after speaking with Okinawan survivors of the US invasion of Okinawa during World War II. Daisuke Inoue (; 13 September 1941 - 30 May 2000), stage name of Tadao Inoue () was a Japanese singer, composer, songwriter and multi-instrumentist. Life and career Born in Tokyo, Inoue started his musical career in 1960 as a member of the group Jackey Yoshikawa and His Blue Comets, serving as multi-instrumentist, vocalist and often also as composer; among others, he penned the group's major hit "Blue Chateau" (ブルー・シャトウ, "Burū shatō"), which won a Japan Record Award and sold over one million copies. After the group disbanded, Inoue started a proficous career as a solo singer and as a composer for other artists, notably Finger 5 and Hiromi Go, and in 1981 he adopted the stage name Daisuke Inoue to mark a fresh new start to his career. Hi-Standard (stylized as Hi-STANDARD) is a Japanese punk rock band formed in 1991 by bassist and lead vocalist Akihiro Nanba, guitarist and vocalist Ken Yokoyama, and drummer Akira Tsuneoka.
