The Isles Of Notre Dame
The Isles of Notre Dame, formerly called Twillingate and Fogo, is a defunct provincial electoral district for the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. As of 2011 the district had 6,990 eligible voters. The district was abolished in 2015 and largely replaced by Lewisporte-Twillingate. This district was represented by former Liberal party leader, Gerry Reid from 1996 to 2007. Derrick Dalley
Derrick Dalley , (born July 22, 1965) is a former Canadian politician in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He served as the Minister of Natural Resources in the provincial cabinet. Dalley has represented the district of The Isles of Notre Dame in the House of Assembly from 2007 until 2015. Before entering politics he worked as a guidance counselor and principal. Early life Dalley was born in Twillingate, Notre Dame Bay. He spent his early years in Springdale before returning to Twillingate, where he completed high school. Dalley went on to attend Memorial University of Newfoundland where he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in political science, and a Bachelor of Education degree in 1987. In 1992, he completed a master's degree in Guidance and Counseling at the University of New Brunswick. Beaton Tulk
Beaton Tulk (May 22, 1944 – May 23, 2019) was a Canadian educator, civil servant and politician. He served as the seventh premier of Newfoundland from 2000 to 2001 as a member of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. Early life Born in Ladle Cove, Newfoundland, Tulk was the youngest son of Sadie and Japhet Tulk. He graduated from Memorial University with BA, B.Ed, and Master of Educational Administration degrees. He also later obtained a Canadian Securities Investment Diploma. An educator prior to politics, he was a supervising principal for the Carmanville school system from 1974 to 1979. Political career Tulk was first elected to the Newfoundland House of Assembly in 1979 as the Liberal Party of Newfoundland (later Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador) member for Fogo, and was re-elected in 1982 and 1985. 2003 Newfoundland And Labrador General Election
The 2003 Newfoundland and Labrador general election was held on October 21, 2003, to elect the 48 members of the 45th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. The election was called on September 29 by Premier Roger Grimes of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. Results This election marked only the third change of government in the 54 years since the province joined Canada. The Liberals, led by Roger Grimes, were soundly defeated by the Danny Williams-led Progressive Conservative Party, who took almost three-quarters of the seats in the House of Assembly and well over half of the popular vote. The 2007 Newfoundland and Labrador general election was held on October 9, 2007 to elect members of the 46th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. Campaign The election was called soon after Premier Danny Williams announced the popular Hebron Oil Field deal, and it was widely considered a foregone conclusion that Williams' Progressive Conservatives would be reelected. The Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party (NL NDP) is a social democracy, social democratic political party in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Danny Dumaresque
Danny Wade Dumaresque (born November 6, 1959) is a Canadian politician. He represented the riding of Eagle River in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1989 to 1996 as a member of the Liberal Party. Dumaresque has been a Director of NL Hydro and an outspoken critic of the Muskrat Falls hydro development. Dumaresque is founder of Labrador Gem Seafoods. In the 1996 election, Dumaresque defeated Yvonne Jones for the Liberal nomination in the redistricted riding of Cartwright-L'Anse au Clair. Jones ran as an independent candidate, however, and defeated Dumaresque in the general election. She later joined the Liberal caucus. The 2011 Newfoundland and Labrador general election took place on October 11, 2011, to elect members of the 47th General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Progressive Conservative Party (PC Party) formed a majority government in the 2007 election, with the Liberal Party serving as the Official Opposition and the New Democratic Party (NDP) serving as a third party. Gordon Janes
Gordon Winston Janes (October 12, 1918 – 1985) was an accountant, educator, business manager and politician in Newfoundland. He represented Fogo in the Newfoundland House of Assembly from 1949 to 1956. The son of Samuel Janes and Violet Noble, he was born in Pool's Island and was educated there and in St. John's. He taught for a short time after completing his education. Janes served in a Newfoundland field artillery unit during World War II and was wounded and discharged in 1944. Isaac Mercer
Isaac Mercer (September 3, 1912 – 2002) was a lawyer and politician in Newfoundland. He represented Port de Grave from 1951 to 1956 and Fogo from 1956 to 1961 in the Newfoundland House of Assembly. The son of William and Maria Mercer, he was born in Sunnyside, Trinity Bay in 1912 and was educated in local schools, at Bishop Feild College, at Memorial University and at Dalhousie University. He was admitted to the bars of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia in 1938 and began the practice of law in St. John's. In 1942, Mercer married Ruby Tucker. He formed a law firm in partnership with Arthur S. Mifflin and Fabian O'Dea. In 1948, Mercer was named King's Counsel. He was first elected to the Newfoundland assembly in 1951.
