The Iron Mule
''The Iron Mule'' is a 1925 American silent comedy film directed by Roscoe Arbuckle and Grover Jones. Plot It is 1830 in Likskillet. The Iron Mule is a steam engine used to haul converted carriages on a rail. A cow on the tracks delays their start. The driver has to take the tall funnel off for the engine to go through the low tunnel. They reach a river.. there is no bridge...They attach logs and float over. The journey then becomes river-based for a while. They then drive on the rails all night. The next morning cowboy ties a horse to the last carriage. The train cannot pull it. The male passengers gamble on a spinning wheel until stopped by one of the women. The train moves off without the driver or any male passenger. They chase after it. They reach Sassafras. Roscoe Arbuckle
Roscoe Conkling "Fatty" Arbuckle (; March 24, 1887 – June 29, 1933) was an American silent film actor, comedian, director, and screenwriter. He started at the Selig Polyscope Company and eventually moved to Keystone Studios, where he worked with Mabel Normand and Harold Lloyd as well as with his nephew, Al St. John. He also mentored Charlie Chaplin, Monty Banks and Bob Hope, and brought vaudeville star Buster Keaton into the movie business. Arbuckle was one of the most popular silent stars of the 1910s and one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood, signing a contract in 1920 with Paramount Pictures for $14,000 (). Arbuckle was the defendant in three widely publicized trials between November 1921 and April 1922 for the rape and manslaughter of actress Virginia Rappe. Rappe had fallen ill at a party hosted by Arbuckle at San Francisco's St. Francis Hotel in September 1921, and died four days later. Glen Cavender
Glen Cavender (September 19, 1883 – February 9, 1962) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 250 films between 1914 and 1949. Biography Glen Cavender was born in Tucson, Arizona, and died in Hollywood, California. He started his acting career in vaudeville shows. Cavender belonged to the original Keystone Cops and was a regular in numerous Mack Sennett comedies. He also worked as a director for three Mack Sennett films between 1914 and 1916. During the 1920s, Cavender worked for the film studios Educational and Christie and appeared in Buster Keaton's film classic '' The General'' (1926) as the antagonistic Union Captain Anderson. The advance of sound film in the late 1920s damaged his career and, formerly a well-known actor, Cavender only played minor roles until his retirement in 1949. He used the name William Goodrich on the films he directed from 1924 onward. Arbuckle's films share the common fate of silent movies. Of the hundreds of features and shorts in which he appeared between 1909 and 1933, only about half are known to have survived, and many exist only in fragmentary form. Doris Anita Dibble (January 20, 1901 – March 24, 1974) was an actress who appeared in films. She supported Al St. John in comedy roles. Early life Deane was born in 1901 in Wisconsin. Marriage to Roscoe Arbuckle She married film director Roscoe Arbuckle May 16, 1925. The marriage followed soon after his divorce from Minta Durfee and followed the rape and manslaughter accusations against him in the death of Virginia Rappe. They planned to honeymoon in New York. They later divorced and she sued for alimony in 1929. She and Arbuckle were guests of writer Gouverneur Morris before their marriage. She was in the 1944 play ''The Day Will Come''. Career Deane is included in the documentary film '' 4 Clowns''. Later life Deane died in Hollywood in 1974. She is buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
