History ''The Independent'' was founded by James J. Mackin, President; Bridget LeRoy, Vice President; Lee Minetree, Treasurer; and Jodi Della Femina, Secretary. The paper, originally named The East Hampton Independent, was renamed ''The Independent'' when they expanded to cover the entire East End. The paper was owned by East Hampton Media, and previously known as The East Hampton Independent News Co. In 2005, ''the Independent'' acquired the Traveler Watchman. Pierson Middle-High School
Pierson Middle-High School is a middle and high school located in Sag Harbor, Suffolk County, New York. Serving students in grades 6 through 12, it is the sole secondary school in the Sag Harbor Union Free School District. Pierson Middle-High School currently offers students the option to take Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses.
