The Immortals (song)
"The Immortals" is a song by American rock band Kings of Leon. It is the sixth track on their fifth studio album ''Come Around Sundown''. The song was originally slated to be released as a single on 21 March 2011. However, it was eventually scrapped. A video of the song was used in an advertisement to promote the 2011 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament and its brand new 68-team field, and was used from March 4–17. Concept Caleb Followill, lead singer of Kings of Leon, who wrote the song along with the other Followills, says "The Immortals": "In a way, I kind of wanted it to be something that I could say to my children. It really says it all in one chorus. Here it is: go out and be who it is you wanna be and at the end of the day, before you've gone, make sure you've loved." Remix In late 2011, Norwegian band Röyksopp remixed the song which then leaked online and was not physically released. Credits and personnel *Kings Of Leon *Caleb Followill – Vocals and guitar *M ... Persian Immortals
Immortals ( grc, Ἀθάνατοι, Athánatoi) or Persian Immortals was the name given by Herodotus to an elite heavy infantry unit of 10,000 soldiers in the army of the Achaemenid Empire. The unit served in a dual capacity through its role as imperial guard alongside its contribution to the ranks of the Persian Empire's standing army. While it primarily consisted of Persians, the Immortals force also included Medes and Elamites. Essential questions regarding the historic unit remain unanswered because authoritative sources are missing. Herodotus' account Herodotus describes the Immortals as being heavy infantry led by Hydarnes the Younger; it provided the professional corps of the Persian armies and was kept constantly at a strength of exactly 10,000 men. He stated that the unit's name stemmed from the custom that every killed, seriously wounded, or sick member was immediately replaced with a new one, maintaining the corps as a cohesive entity with a constant strength. The Immortals (rugby League)
The Immortals of rugby league in Australia are players named as the nation's greatest ever. From 1981 to 2017 ''The Immortals'' were named by the Australian sports magazine ''Rugby League Week''. From 2018, the National Rugby League took over ''The Immortals'' concept. Established in 1981, the original group consisted of former Test captains Clive Churchill, Bob Fulton, Reg Gasnier, and Johnny Raper. Although ''Rugby League Week'' (RLW) did not hold any official affiliation with any of the governing bodies of rugby league in Australia, the release was met with much public respect and admiration for the players listed. To coincide with this announcement, Hunter Valley vineyard Elliots Wines released, in conjunction with ''Rugby League Week'', four bottles of 1977 vintage port as a boxed set. Each player was represented on the label of each of the bottles. Returning eighteen years later, ''Rugby League Week'' announced in 1999 its intention to select a fifth member of The Immortals ... A Spacetime Odyssey)
A, or a, is the first letter and the first vowel of the Latin alphabet, used in the modern English alphabet, the alphabets of other western European languages and others worldwide. Its name in English is ''a'' (pronounced ), plural ''aes''. It is similar in shape to the Ancient Greek letter alpha, from which it derives. The uppercase version consists of the two slanting sides of a triangle, crossed in the middle by a horizontal bar. The lowercase version can be written in two forms: the double-storey a and single-storey ɑ. The latter is commonly used in handwriting and fonts based on it, especially fonts intended to be read by children, and is also found in italic type. In English grammar, " a", and its variant " an", are indefinite articles. History The earliest certain ancestor of "A" is aleph (also written 'aleph), the first letter of the Phoenician alphabet, which consisted entirely of consonants (for that reason, it is also called an abjad to distinguish ...
