The Ice House (novel)
''The Ice House'' (1992) is the first crime novel by English writer Minette Walters. The story was the recipient of a John Creasey award for best debut. Synopsis Mrs Phoebe Maybury, a widow in her late thirties, lives in Streech Grange with her two companions Diana and Anne. One day her servant Fred finds a rotting corpse in their ice house, a storage room inside a hillock that hasn't been used for years. DCI George Walsh thinks it may be the corpse of Phoebe's husband David, who went missing ten years ago. Back then, Walsh suspected her of killing her husband, but this was never proven. Inhabitants of the village believe that the three women are lesbians, and that Phoebe did not only kill her husband but also her parents. They died in a car crash after garage owner KC neglected to check their brakes. The Ice House Comedy Club is a comedy club located at 24 Mentor Avenue in Pasadena, California. The Ice House continues to thrive and during its many decades of operation has entertained over four million people. ''The Ice House'' is the last of the eight short films originally broadcast as part of the BBC's '' A Ghost Story for Christmas'' series of the 1970s, the first not directed by Lawrence Gordon Clark; Clark had become a freelance director and was working for ITV. The film was instead directed by Derek Lister. It was first shown on BBC One on 25 December 1978. Like its predecessor, it was an original story. It was written by John Bowen who had earlier adapted ''The Treasure of Abbot Thomas'' in 1974. The film stars John Stride, Geoffrey Burridge and Elizabeth Romilly. In the film, Paul (John Stride) has recently left his wife and has moved to a residential health spa located in an old country house to recuperate. ''The Ice House'' (also known as ''Love in Cold Blood'' and ''The Passion Pit'') is a 1969 American horror- thriller film directed by Stuart E. McGowan. The feature starred the twin brothers David and Robert Story, with Jim Davis, Scott Brady, Nancy Dow, Karen Lee, and model/actress Sabrina in one of her last film roles. After actress Jennifer Aniston rose to fame, the film gained notoriety because her mother, former actress Nancy Dow, had a role in it. Plot Ric Martin (Robert Story), a disgraced cop, long since fired from police work, makes a sexual approach to Ice House dancer Venus De Marco (Sabrina) and is struck with a beer bottle for his efforts. Angered, he stalks the dancer, and when she again raises a bottle in a defensive manner, he strangles her. He is thwarted in his efforts to hide the body at a local lovers' lane, and ends up hiding it at The Ice House, where he works in the menial position of attendant.
