The Hurdy Gurdy Man
''The Hurdy Gurdy Man'' is the sixth studio album (seventh overall) by Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan. It was released in the US in October 1968 (Epic Records BN 26420 (stereo)), but not in the UK, because of a continuing contractual dispute that also prevented '' Sunshine Superman'' and ''Mellow Yellow'' from being released there. A songbook of lead sheets to the album was nonetheless issued in both countries. History Donovan wrote and recorded much of ''The Hurdy Gurdy Man'' in late 1967, not long after recording the songs that would form ''A Gift from a Flower to a Garden''. The rest of ''The Hurdy Gurdy Man'' was recorded in April 1968, after he visited Rishikesh in India to study Transcendental Meditation under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Donovan
Donovan Phillips Leitch (born 10 May 1946), known mononymously as Donovan, is a Scottish musician, songwriter, and record producer. He developed an eclectic and distinctive style that blended folk, jazz, pop, psychedelic rock and world music (notably calypso). He has lived in Scotland, Hertfordshire (England), London, California, and—since at least 2008—in County Cork, Ireland, with his family. Emerging from the British folk scene, Donovan reached fame in the United Kingdom in early 1965 with live performances on the pop TV series '' Ready Steady Go!''. Cynthia Lennon
Cynthia Lennon (born Powell; 10 September 1939 – 1 April 2015) was the first wife of John Lennon and the mother of Julian Lennon. Born in Blackpool and raised in Hoylake on the Wirral Peninsula, she attended the Liverpool College of Art where Lennon was also a student. Powell and Lennon started a relationship after meeting in a calligraphy class. When Lennon was performing in Hamburg with the Beatles, Powell rented his bedroom at 251 Menlove Avenue in the Liverpool suburb of Woolton from his aunt and legal guardian, Mimi Smith. ''Rising'' is the third live album, and twentieth album overall, from British singer-songwriter Donovan. It was released on Permanent Records in 1990 (LP and CD). The live versions of Donovan's hits guaranteed that ''Rising'' would receive a release in both the United States and United Kingdom. ''Rising'' was retitled ''The Classics Live'' in the United States, ''25 Years in Concert'' in Europe and ''Atlantis'' in the UK for marketing reasons. Since the release of ''Rising'', there have been many reissues of the songs from the album under many different titles. ''Rising'' was supposedly recorded sporadically from 1982 through 1986 at various live concerts during different world tours. Michael Edward Love (born March 15, 1941) is an American singer and songwriter who co-founded the Beach Boys with his cousins Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson and their friend Al Jardine. Prudence Anne Villiers Farrow Bruns (born January 20, 1948) is an American author, meditation teacher, and film producer. She is the daughter of film director John Farrow and actress Maureen O'Sullivan and younger sister of actress Mia Farrow.
