The Human Zoo (radio)
''The Human Zoo,'' a radio programme on talkSPORT, was presented by Tommy Boyd, with his engineer Asher Gould effectively acting as co-presenter. It was broadcast from May 2000 until Boyd's dismissal in March 200 and took its name from a 1969 book of the same name by Desmond Morris. Format The programme had a straightforward 'phone in' format, except that callers were unscreened, went straight to air, and could say whatever they wanted, broadcasting regulations permitting. This unique radio experiment attained cult status and quickly became the most popular programme on AM radio in Britain. At the peak of its popularity in the summer of 2001, up to a million calls were received throughout the four-hour programme. While not the most original format for radio, the Human Zoo was wildly successful. Radio Aire was an Independent Local Radio station, serving Leeds and West Yorkshire. The station was merged and relaunched as Greatest Hits Radio Yorkshire, as part of a rebrand, on 1 September 2020. History Radio Aire was launched at 6am on 1 September 1981 by breakfast presenter Graham Thornton – the first song played on air was ''Pilot of the Airwaves'' by Charlie Dore. The station's first news bulletin was read by Christa Ackroyd and in November 1982, she became the UK's first female radio news editor. In 1986, Radio Aire's VHF/FM frequency changed from 94.6 MHz to 96.3 FM. James Whale (radio)
Michael James Whale (born 13 May 1951) is an English radio personality, television presenter, podcast host and author. He gained initial prominence in the 1980s as the host of ''The James Whale Radio Show'' on Radio Aire in Leeds, which was simulcast on national television. From 1995 to 2008, Whale hosted a night time radio show on talkSPORT (Talk Radio 1995–2000), followed by stints on LBC 97.3 and various BBC radio stations. Clive Bull (born 23 January 1959) is an English radio talk show host, best known for presenting a late-night show on LBC in London. Background Bull was educated at Dulwich College in south east London, between 1970 and 1977 where he was a leading light of the tape-based "College Radio". He has a degree in Educational Broadcasting from the University of London and a distinction in Radio Journalism from The National Broadcasting School. He joined LBC as a telephone operator. He worked as a producer for Steve Allen's LBC show ''Nightline'' and later went on to review books for the same show. Absolute Radio is a British National radio station owned and operated by Bauer as part of the Absolute Radio Network. It broadcasts nationally across the UK via Digital audio broadcasting and on 1215 kHz MW. Play Radio UK was a British internet radio station based on the South Coast of England. Its output comprised two mainstream music radio streams, a talk radio stream, and several other genre-specific music streams.
