The Hoxton, Portland is a hotel in Portland, Oregon's Old Town Chinatown neighborhood, in the United States. The 119-room hotel, part of the European chain, opened on November 12, 2018. The property includes the renovated three-story Grove Hotel, which opened in 1907, as well as a nine-story addition. Old Town Chinatown is the official Chinatown of the Northwest section of Portland, Oregon. The Willamette River forms its eastern boundary, separating it from the Lloyd District and the Kerns and Buckman neighborhoods. The magazine was co-founded in 2003 by siblings Nicole and Scott Vogel. ''The Hoxton'' is a "series of open-house hotels," owned by Ennismore. History ''The Hoxton'' brand was founded in 2006 by Sinclair Beecham, co-founder of Pret A Manger turned hotelier. It launched with ''The Hoxton'', Shoreditch, built on a former car park on Great Eastern Street in East London. A speakeasy, also called a blind pig or blind tiger, is an illicit establishment that sells alcoholic beverages, or a retro style bar that replicates aspects of historical speakeasies. Speakeasy bars came into prominence in the United States during the Prohibition era (1920–1933, longer in some states). During that time, the sale, manufacture, and transportation ( bootlegging) of alcoholic beverages was illegal throughout the United States.
