The House Of Water
''The House of Water'' ( es, La casa de agua) is a 1983 Venezuelan drama film of the nation's Golden Age directed by Jacobo Penzo. The film was selected as the Venezuelan entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 57th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee. Plot A young man, Cruz Salmerón Acosta, from the impoverished village of Manicaure, Araya, rejects the dictatorship of Juan Vicente Gómez. Despite fighting for his ideals, he achieves nothing, returning to Manicaure with few opportunities. He ultimately dies alone of leprosy. Jacobo Penzo
Jacobo Penzo (born 1948 in Carora), is a Venezuelan filmmaker, best known for his drama piece '' The House of Water'', shown in the Directors' Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival in 1984. The film also represented Venezuela in the Best Foreign Language Film competition at the 57th Academy Awards. Penzo is also a painter and a writer. Venezuela has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1978. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. Venezuela has had thirty-one films accepted by AMPAS for Oscar consideration, but none have yet been nominated for an Academy Award. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The National Cinematography Law is a law ratified in 1993 by the Venezuelan National Assembly, seeking to protect the rights of the Venezuelan filmmaking community and to promote the work of its producers at national and international levels.
