The House In Montevideo (1963 Film)
''The House in Montevideo'' (german: Das Haus in Montevideo) is a 1963 German comedy film directed by Helmut Käutner and starring Heinz Rühmann, Ruth Leuwerik and Paul Dahlke. Professor Traugott Nägler, a man with high moral standards, once has repudiated his underage sister for having a baby out of wedlock. Many years later, having a loving wife and twelve children with only the small salary of a schoolmaster, he is told that said sister has died in South America, and that he should come with his oldest yet still underage daughter, Atlanta, who was named after the ship on which the couple was married at sea by the captain. Helmut Käutner
Helmut Käutner (25 March 1908 – 20 April 1980) was a German film director active mainly in the 1940s and 1950s. He entered the film industry at the end of the Weimar Republic and released his first films as a director in Nazi Germany. Käutner is relatively unknown outside of Germany, although he is considered one of the best filmmakers in German film history. He was one of the most influential film directors of German post-war cinema and became known for his sophisticated literary adaptations. He was born in Düsseldorf, German Empire, Germany. Käutner started out as a director in the Nazi era, but his films remained largely free of Nationalsocialist propaganda. One of his early successes was ''Romanze in Moll'' (1943), an adaptation of Guy du Maupassant’s short story “Les Bijoux". Elfie Fiegert
Elfie (Elfriede) Fiegert (born 1946) is an Afro-German film actor who became famous as a child actor for playing the lead role in the film ''Toxi'' (1952) filmed when she was five years old. This was followed in 1955 with the film '' The Dark Star'' which has erroneously been described as sequel. At the age of seventeen she had a small role in '' The House in Montevideo'' (1963). Toxi Elfie did not receive a credit for a role in ''Toxi''. She was described as playing herself. The publicity for the film suggested that the story of the film reflected Elfie's own origins, and she came to use the stage name Toxi. The name also Toxi became widely used as shorthand in the German media when referring to Afro-Germans and their social condition. Viktor de Kowa (also spelled Victor de Kowa, born Victor Paul Karl Kowalczyk; 8 March 1904 – 8 April 1973) was a German stage and film actor, chanson singer, director, narrator, and comic poet. Life He was born the son of a farmer and engineer in Hohkirch near Görlitz (present-day Przesieczany in Poland), from where his family moved to Seifersdorf near Dippoldiswalde in Saxony in 1908 and to Chemnitz in 1913. De Kowa joined a cadet corps before he began occupational training as a graphic designer. Having attended drama classes with Erich Ponto, he gave his acting debut at the Staatstheater Dresden in 1922. Michael Verhoeven (born 13 July 1938) is a German film director.
