''The Hound of the Baskervilles'' is a 1982 British television Serial (radio and television), serial made by the BBC. It was produced by Barry Letts, directed by Peter Duguid, and starred Tom Baker as Sherlock Holmes and Terence Rigby as Doctor Watson. The adaptation aired as a four-part serial. The serial is based on Arthur Conan Doyle's 1902 Sherlock Holmes novel ''The Hound of the Baskervilles''. The music score was composed and conducted by Carl Davis. Background and production This production of Doyle's ''The Hound of the Baskervilles'' was the second multi-part BBC adaptation, following Peter Cushing's two-part episode for the Sherlock Holmes (1965 TV series), 1968 television series. Several cameras—either film cameras, film or professional video cameras—are employed on the set and simultaneously record or broadcast a scene. It is often contrasted with a single-camera setup, which uses one camera. Description Generally, the two outer cameras shoot close-up shots or "crosses" of the two most active characters on the set at any given time, while the central camera or cameras shoot a wider master shot to capture the overall action and establish the geography of the room. In this way, multiple shots are obtained in a single take without having to start and stop the action. This is more efficient for programs that are to be shown a short time after being shot as it reduces the time spent in film editing, film or video editing.
