Dar Williams
Dorothy Snowden "Dar" Williams (born April 19, 1967) is an American pop folk singer-songwriter from Mount Kisco, New York. Hendrik Hertzberg of ''The New Yorker'' has described Williams as "one of America's very best singer-songwriters." She is a frequent performer at folk festivals and has toured with such artists as Mary Chapin Carpenter, Patty Griffin, Ani DiFranco, the Nields, Shawn Colvin, Girlyman, Joan Baez, and Catie Curtis. Early life Williams was born in Mount Kisco, New York, and grew up in Chappaqua with two older sisters, Meredith and Julie. Her nickname "Dar" originated due to a mispronunciation of "Dorothy" by one of Williams's sisters. Razor & Tie was an American entertainment company that consisted of a record label and a music publishing company. It was established in 1990 by Craig Balsam and Cliff Chenfeld. Based in New York City (with additional offices in Los Angeles and Nashville), Razor & Tie releases were distributed by Universal Music Group. Razor & Tie initially focused on compilation albums and re-issues. Brooks Williams (born November 10, 1958) is an American acoustic guitarist and singer-songwriter. His style combines roots, jazz, blues, classical, and folk. He has released albums of contemporary folk music, blues music, and of instrumental guitar music. ''Mortal City'' is Dar Williams' second album, released in January 1996 by Razor & Tie. The songs "As Cool as I Am" and "The Christians and the Pagans" were released as singles in 1996; the former was also accompanied by a music video. Unlike Williams' previous album, ''The Honesty Room'', which was entirely acoustic, ''Mortal City'' featured electric backup on a number of the album's songs, particularly "The Ocean" and "The Blessings". Tom McClung
Tom McClung (April 4, 1957 – May 14, 2017) was an American jazz pianist and composer. Career McClung released several jazz albums, both as a leader and as a sideman to other artists. He played and recorded with musicians such as Archie Shepp, Yusef Lateef, and Marion Brown. He spent years residing, performing, and recording music with other artists in Paris. Beginning in 1996, he toured and recorded internationally as a member of the Archie Shepp quartet. Their recording, ''Gemini'', features two McClung originals and a guest appearance by rapper Chuck D of Public Enemy. McClung's solo piano recording ''Declassified'' (Blang Music, 2007) features arrangements and re-interpretations of classical composers.
