The Hitchers (Irish Band)
The Hitchers are a band from the Irish city of Limerick. They formed in 1989. History The Hitchers released two LPs in the UK and Ireland: ''It's All Fun and Games Til Someone Loses an Eye'' (1997) and ''For the Want of Some Better TV'' (1999). They are perhaps best remembered in the UK for the song "Strachan", a kitchen sink opera wherein the protagonist is involved in an argument while simultaneously watching a football match on TV that features the Scottish footballer Gordon Strachan in an early 1990s Leeds United side versus an unspecified opposition (though the studio recordings fade-out features a sample that suggests the opposition are the Birmingham club Aston Villa). Limerick
Limerick ( ; ga, Luimneach ) is a western city in Ireland situated within County Limerick. It is in the province of Munster and is located in the Mid-West which comprises part of the Southern Region. With a population of 94,192 at the 2016 census, Limerick is the third-most populous urban area in the state, and the fourth-most populous city on the island of Ireland at the 2011 census. Ash (band)
Ash are a Northern Irish rock band formed in Downpatrick in 1992 by vocalist and guitarist Tim Wheeler, bassist Mark Hamilton and drummer Rick McMurray. As a three-piece, they released mini-album '' Trailer'' in 1994 and full-length album '' 1977'' in 1996. This 1996 release was named by ''NME'' as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time. After the success of their full debut the band recruited Charlotte Hatherley as a guitarist and vocalist, releasing their second record ''Nu-Clear Sounds'' in 1998. After narrowly avoiding bankruptcy, the band released ''Free All Angels'' in 2001 and a string of successful singles. Dolores O'Riordan
Dolores Mary Eileen O'Riordan ( ; 6 September 1971 – 15 January 2018) was an Irish musician, singer and songwriter. She was best known as the lead vocalist and lyricist for the alternative rock band the Cranberries. One of the most recognizable voices in rock in the 1990s, she was known for her lilting mezzo-soprano voice, signature yodel, emphasized use of keening, and strong Limerick accent. O'Riordan was born in County Limerick, Ireland, to a Catholic working-class family. She began to perform as a soloist in her church choir before leaving secondary school to join the Cranberries in 1990. Recognised for her "unique" voice, she quickly achieved worldwide fame. Anything (The Cranberries Demo)
''Anything'' is the first demo EP by Irish band the Cranberry Saw Us, later known as the Cranberries. It was self-released on cassette format. This is the only release to feature the original singer Niall Quinn. By their next release, ''Water Circle'', Niall Quinn had been replaced by Dolores O'Riordan as lead vocalist and primary songwriter. Guitarist Noel Hogan designed the cover art. He made an error in the band's name, spelling it "The Cranbery Saw Us" on both the cover and the liner notes. The liner notes show the original sale price was £2.00 and overwritten with £2.50. Noel Hogan
Noel Anthony Hogan (born 25 December 1971) is an Irish musician and record producer best known as the lead guitarist and co-songwriter of the Irish alt-rock band the Cranberries. The Cranberries Hogan formed the Cranberries with his brother Mike and drummer Fergal Lawler in 1989. The group recruited Dolores O'Riordan as lead singer soon after forming. The band went on to sell in excess of 40 million records worldwide. In total, Hogan has released eight albums with the Cranberries. The Cranberries went on a six-year hiatus from 2003 to 2009. Dan Hegarty is an Irish radio presenter employed by RTÉ. He presents his show ''The Alternative'' on RTÉ 2fm Monday to Thursday from 10:00 pm – 12:00am (the show is broadcast live each morning on RTÉ 2XM at 10am to 1pm). He is regularly dispatched to important musical events such as the Eurosonic Festival in The Netherlands, Electric Picnic and Oxegen for live broadcasting purposes, as well as being sent around the country to present the 2fm 2moro 2our. David Fanning (born 27 February 1956) is an Irish television and radio broadcaster, rock journalist, DJ, film critic and author. Fanning currently hosts weekend midday magazine/chat show ''The Dave Fanning Show'' on the Irish national radio station RTÉ 2fm and a number of RTÉ Radio 1 programmes.
