''Expansion: The History of the Galaxy'' (russian: "История Галактики", ''Istoriya Galaktiki'') is a science fiction book series by Russian writer Andrey Livadny with a plot spanning from the 23rd to the 39th centuries. It embraces several novels, tales, and stories. Some of which are within the five collected stories. Plotlines prominently featured in the series include: Devastating Interstellar Wars, Contacts with Alien Races, and The Collapse and Rebirth of Civilizations. ''The Last of the Immortals'' (russian: Последний из бессмертных, Posledniy iz bessmertnykh) is a military science fiction novel written by the Russian language, Russian science fiction writer Andrey Livadny as part of his ''The History of the Galaxy'' series. The novel is also sometimes published under the name ''Retaliatory Strike'' (russian: Ответный удар, Otvetniy udar). Plot The story begins in the year 39th century, 3870, with Galact-Captain Ivan Tamantsev of the Confederacy of Suns defending an unarmed convoy from a group of Piracy, pirate ships. Despite managing to destroy four of the attacking ships, Tamantsev loses his wingman and is himself forced to eject, after his fighter sustains heavy damage.
