The Hidden Half
''The Hidden Half'' (''Nimeh-ye Penhan''; نيمه پنهان) is a 2001 controversial drama film, written and directed by Iranian feminist Tahmineh Milani. The film stars Niki Karimi, Mohammad Nikbin and Atila Pesiani. The story is told as a manuscript of Fereshteh Samimi's (Niki Karimi) life, revealing her politically active and romantic past life, to her husband (Mohammad Nikbin). ''The Hidden Half'' won the award for Best Screenplay in the Asia Pacific Film Festival in 2002. In 2001, the movie was nominated for the Golden Pyramid award from the Cairo International Film Festival, and won the award for Best Artistic Contribution, as well as being nominated for the PFS award from the Political Film Society in 2002. Tahmineh Milani
Tahmineh Milāni ( fa, تهمینه میلانی) is an Iranian feminist activist, and film director and producer. Early career She was born 1960 in Tabriz, Iran. After graduating in architecture from the University of Science and Technology in Tehran in 1986, she apprenticed as a script girl and an assistant director following a screen workshop in 1979. Directing career Milani's directing career has produced award-winning films, such as ''Two Women'', The 5th Reaction, and The Unwanted Woman. Her films often focus on cultural or social issues, including women's rights and the 1979 Iranian Revolution. Milani states that one of the most important issues in Iran is the inability to express one's true personality, claiming that Iranian men and women lead double lives. Niki Karimi ( fa, نیکی کریمی; born November 10, 1971) is an Iranian actress, director, screenwriter and producer. Mahmoud Kalari (Persian: محمود کلاری; born in Tehran), is an Iranian cinematographer, screenwriter, film director and photographer, who has worked with number of renowned Iranian directors such as Abbas Kiarostami, Jafar Panahi, Asghar Farhadi and Mohsen Makhmalbaf.
